About me

Hello, I’m Ashley Thurlow. Thank you for taking the time to find out a little about me.

I’ve been working in counselling for over a decade, and my passion has always been to create a space where you feel truly safe, heard, and understood. When you step into therapy with me, it’s your space, free from judgement, pressure, or expectation. A place where you can just be, and where we can explore whatever you need to bring.

My background is varied. I’ve supported people facing the toughest challenges, from trauma and rape crisis work to drug and alcohol support, to helping children and young people through moments that can feel overwhelming. I’ve also been a Counselling Supervisor for over 8 years, walking alongside other therapists as they navigate their own work.

At the heart of my approach is connection. I believe that the relationship we build together is one of the most powerful parts of the counselling process. I work integratively, blending different approaches such as Person-Centred Therapy and CBT, so we can tailor our work to what feels most helpful for you, rather than forcing you into a ‘one-size-fits-all’ method.

Over the years, I’ve worked with people from all walks of life, and no matter what’s brought you here, anxiety, self-esteem struggles, addiction, abuse, grief, or something you can’t quite name, you don’t have to face it alone. Together, we can work towards making sense of things, finding clarity, and moving towards the life you want to live.

If you’d like to talk or ask any questions before starting, please feel free to get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
