About me

Welcome,

I offer in person and online counselling services in Godmanchester/Huntingdon and surrounding areas. My approach to counselling is rooted in person-centred philosophy and a belief that each person can - with the right support - overcome challenging life situations. Therapy provides an opportunity to grow, develop and heal. My role in this is to help you understand yourself better and make sense of your experience of the world, including those aspects which may have negative effects on your quality of life and well being. We all have something to work on, to understand better or change. This could be a specific problem like a relationship, an identity crisis, a work related issue or an illness, bereavement or a specific fear. Or it could be a more general feeling of unease, anxiety, depression, meaninglessness, emptiness or discontent.

In my experience, these crises also provide an opportunity to grow and to develop. Understanding our position in the world, our pain and our wounds as well as our goals and ambitions often helps to develop strong self-esteem and the ability to heal ourselves.

I have undertaken further training in the effects of childhood trauma. Normal responses to an abnormal situation can include sleeplessness, feeling overwhelmed, anxious or on edge, extreme fatigue, physical symptoms, intrusive memories, guilt, shame or anger. Counselling offers the confidential support necessary to make sense of our experiences and rebuild our lives.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

My previous careers in radiography and teaching have shown me that nothing in life is ever lost and every experience shapes us to be the person we are now. Working with cancer patients made me grapple with existential questions and has given me a desire to be a companion when life seems without hope.
