About me

I offer 'In Person' and online (Google Meet) counselling and psychotherapy.

As an experienced counsellor, I aim to provide you with a safe, non-judgemental place to help you with any painful or confusing thoughts, feelings and experiences you may have. I work in a warm and empathic way shaping the therapy to your particular needs. I am an 'integrative' therapist, which means I can use a variety of therapeutic styles and tools to help you. All my appointments are held in a lovely, peaceful log cabin in my garden

Training, qualifications & experience

I run my Private Practice from a beautiful log cabin in my garden and in the past I  worked at an agency that specialised in supporting people who have been affected by Sexual Abuse or Rape. I was also a lecturer in Counselling Studies at Basingstoke College of Technology

I am an 'integrative' therapist, which means I can use a variety of therapeutic styles and tools to help you. I hold the idea that there are many ways in which human psychology can be explored and understood - no one theory alone holds the answer.

The two main theoretical approaches that I draw from are Person-Centred and Psychodynamic counselling

Person-centred therapy uses a non-authoritative approach that allows you, the client, to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, you will discover your own solutions. I act as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment and acknowledging your experience without moving the conversation in another direction. I am there to encourage and support you and to guide the therapeutic process without interrupting or interfering with your process of self-discovery.

The aim of psychodynamic therapy is to bring the unconscious mind into consciousness - helping you to unravel, experience and understand your true, deep-rooted feelings in order to resolve them. It takes the view that our unconscious holds onto painful feelings and memories, which are too difficult for the conscious mind to process. In order to ensure these memories and experiences stay below the surface, many people will develop defences. According to psychodynamic therapy, these defences will often do more harm than good.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
