About me

Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. My name's Alison and I have been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over 12 years now. I appreciate finding the right therapist can be a daunting task. I hope I can provide you with enough information here and on my website to help you decide if I am the therapist for you, but please feel free to call or email me if you want to ask me anything further.

My aim is to provide a safe, understanding environment where you can begin to talk through your issues without feeling judged. Together we can look at what is causing you difficulty in your life, and explore new ways of being which will hopefully allow you to experience a more fulfilled and meaningful life. I work integratively which means I am trained in a range of theories and approaches which I can draw on to provide support which is meaningful and helpful to you as an individual.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the University of Leeds where I gained an MA with distinction in Psychotherapy and Counselling.

In the past I have worked for the charitable organization, Leeds Counselling and also within an NHS setting in Bradford. As such I have experience of a wide range of client issues, and have worked with clients long-term for up to two years, as well as over brief periods of just six weeks.

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and have full professional indemnity insurance. I receive regular supervision and ensure I undertake regular additional training to maintain the ethical standard of my work.

Having undertaken a course at the British Mindfulness Institute, I am also qualified to offer Mindfulness therapy, which has been shown to be highly effective in addressing a number of issues including depression and anxiety.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
