About me

Hi! My name is Adi and I am a counselling psychologist providing private therapy wherein I form meaningful and healing relationships with clients and work collaboratively and creatively to meet clients’ needs. I also work in university where I help train others to become psychologists, so I am constantly aware of evolving practices that in turn help me provide robust, evidence based, and personally tailored therapy in my clinical work.

I believe in the importance of living the life we want to live, and that psychological distress happens when we find ourselves living a life that isn’t true to our values. I believe this is often because we are in an everlasting battle in our minds and struggle to be present in the world. To me, healing happens when we can compassionately understand and then melt away those obstacles (whether they are from within us or coming from outside influences).

In terms of techniques, I draw on a variety of types of therapies including Gestalt, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic Approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Focused Therapy, and Systemic Approaches. Importantly, I offer creative techniques to aid expression of emotion so as to get “unstuck”, especially when we find words aren’t enough.

As an expert in Eating Disorders, when I work with disordered eating or body image related issues, I also draw upon MANTRA and CBT-E.

If you are unsure whether I’m the right fit for you - please don’t hesitate to email me or text me and we can have arrange a 15-30 minute phone call for which you will not be charged.

What to expect

If you decide to give therapy with me a go, you can expect having 1-2 “assessment” appointments where we will get to know each other and get a sense of what’s going on for you and what you would like to get out of therapy. On this basis, I will put the information together in a diagram to see if I understand what the problem is, how it started, and what keeps it going. I will ask you to correct me as the expert of your own experience. Finally, the diagram will serve as our “road map” based on which I will suggest the plan for treatment, and ask you for your thoughts. Therapy will always be collaborative. Then, we will embark on the journey of the road map we built, stopping along the way to see how far we’ve come and making sure we are still heading where you want to go.
