About me
People tend to come to counselling for many reasons, but often the reason is a life crisis. You may be feeling depressed, anxious or overwhelmed, experiencing low self esteem or conflict in a relationship. But a crisis can provide the necessary catalyst for change, giving you the drive and momentum to overcome obstacles and make the choices which lead to the life you want. Otherwise human beings by nature tend to avoid change, even if the change will lead to greater happiness, out of a fear of the unknown.
My work is based on supporting self-reflection, with compassion and understanding, and giving you 'breathing space' to explore your thoughts and feelings. This enable you to gain greater self-awareness and insight, and then to make choices that are more in alignment with your deepest needs and desire and contribute to a more contented and fulfilling life.
I have 20 years experience working with individuals and couples as a Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Supervisor. My training and experience is diverse, which allows me to work with clients according to their specific needs. I also specialise in working with trauma, and am trained in EMDR, a powerful tool for changing negative patterns of thinking and behaviour (approved by NICE). I lead mindfulness and self-esteem courses, and use these techniques in my work with clients.
I am accredited by UKCP, one of the two main bodies that regulate the counselling and psychotherapy profession, and abide by their code of ethics and practice.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
