I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and qualified Clinical Supervisor. I have over 35 years experience in health care and know that anyone can, almost without realising what's happening, find him or herself in a situation where day to day life feels increasingly stressful and uncomfortable.
Issues that affect us may include bereavement, relationship problems, family stresses, eating disorders, financial pressures or workplace issues. All of these can lead to emotions such as anger, anxiety, loss of confidence, low spirits and feelings of helplessness or indecision.
Should you be experiencing feelings which are affecting your quality of life, you may find it helpful to come and talk to me to see how I might help you make sense of your situation. Together we can work towards an understanding of what is causing you to act and feel the way you do. We might also look at whether you are repeating unhelpful patterns of behaviour which, once identified, can be changed.
I am delighted to offer short, medium and long term counselling to individuals and couples and work in an atmosphere of support and respect. I believe a warm, comfortable, confidential and non-judgmental environment gives you the freedom to explore and understand the complexity of your thoughts and feelings. My approach is as broad based as my experience and together we can find a way back to a better perspective for you, based on common sense and practical support.
I originally trained and qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in my native New Zealand before settling in Britain in 1971. Having gained my Post Graduate Diploma from the University of Hertfordshire in 2001, I worked happily for many years within the NHS as a counsellor in GP surgeries. I subsequently set up my own Hertfordshire private counselling practice which has now been running successfully for some time.
I am also a network counsellor providing short tem counselling for several Employee Assistance Providers and a fully qualified Clinical Supervisor.
Additional areas of practical experience include working with:
Cancer patients and their families
Pupils in secondary schools
Community counselling services
Drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic
The Way I Think:
I believe in straightforward, clear communication to help you make sense of whatever situation you find yourself dealing with.
It is vital for you to be able too choose a counsellor who is right for you and I am always more than delighted to answer any questions you may have and talk about what you feel you need. I hope you won't hesitate to get in touch by phone or email, whichever feels more comfortable for you.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
