About me
WHAT'S UNDERNEATH YOUR SMILEY FACE?
Any of us at any time can find ourselves struggling to cope. But at the same time, we have to put on a smiley face and carry on. It’s not easy!
Sometimes there’s a clear reason for what we’re feeling - bereavement, a relationship breakdown, ill-health, workplace or financial stress - at other times, we can be unexpectedly triggered and thrown into a downward spiral by a seemingly minor incident.
Whatever has knocked you off your feet, resulting anxiety, low mood and feelings of helplessness and indecision, take the joy out of life, and it can be hard to believe there’s any way back.
After twenty-two years of working with individuals and emotional health, I can reassure you – there is. Together we can find an understanding of what’s making you feel the way you do, and as the fog starts to clear, you can begin to move forward again.
The Koru is a powerful symbol in Māori culture from my native New Zealand, representing new beginnings, growth, and the uncurling of the fern leaf. This same idea of growth and renewal can be found in the journey of counselling. My aim is to help you navigate this journey, to support you in finding new ways of thinking and being, and to empower you to make positive changes in your life.
MY PRACTICE
I am a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and qualified Clinical Supervisor with over 40 years of experience in health care. I offer online short, medium and long-term counselling to individuals or couples via Zoom.
Having trained and qualified as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) in New Zealand, I settled in the UK in 1971 and gained my Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Hertfordshire in 2001. I worked in the NHS for many years as Counsellor in several different GP Surgeries before setting up my Private Practice in Hertfordshire.
SPECIAL INTEREST
My own medical background and experience have led to a special interest in the pressures and challenges encountered in the healthcare profession, and I have successfully worked with individuals at every level.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
