About me

I offer a quiet, empathic and non judgemental space for you to bring any feelings of anxiety, depression and low self esteem.

I will help you gain confidence and knowledge in techniques that regulate these feelings.   As you become more familiar in exploring your feelings, without fear of being overwhelmed by them, we can start to make sense of these feelings.  We can't 'rub out' life events that have caused significant pain or distress, but we can learn to view them from a different perspective. One which allows us to live outside of the shadow left by such events.

The roots of our emotions and feelings are laid down in our younger years and can be reinforced with more life experiences. If this is something that interests you (for some I know it feels almost essential to go back before we can go forward) I am happy to explore memories and family history.  However I think it is worth saying this isn't essential for successful therapy.  For any one interested in using mindfulness (a focus on the present), I have found this to be most successfull with renumeration, negative thinking and low self esteem.

Whichever way you choose to work, we will be in it together. Whilst the journey may at times be more challenging than others, I will steadfastly offer you compassion, encouragement, honesty and even humour has it's important role.

A little bit about the practicalities of how I work. I offer both face to face and remote counselling. Remote counselling is either on a social media platform such as Zoom or a telephone call. I find weekly sessions, preferably at the same time each week for the first six-eight weeks works best. After this some feel ready to move to fortnightly sessions and others stay weekly.  There is no right or wrong it is simply what feels right in your process. I always offer a 45 minute free initial chat. This gives you chance to ask any questions you have and get an idea if I am the right counsellor for you.

All you need to do is pick up the phone or email me.  I know this first move can be quite hard - but I would say take a deep breath and do it. It's your first step into a better life. If I am not immediatly available I will contact you as ASAP.  *please check your spam*   We can then arrange a convenient date for a chat as to how I can help and get your first appointment in the diary.

Who ever you choose as you counsellor, I wish you the very best on your journey to a better lived life.

Yvonne

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
