About me

Hi my name is Tracy Norman and I work in Bristol and Malvern as a counsellor with Young people and adults. I qualified as a person-centred counsellor and have integrated other approaches in to my practice from solution focused therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness and elements of coaching.

The safe, non judgemental space can provide encouragement for the individual to explore and understand their feelings, grow, discover potential and self acceptance. I work in secondary schools with a lot of teenagers that feel in crisis right now.  Anxiety, general sadness and low mood, self-harming, low self esteem and confidence, gender issues, difficulties dealing with school and peer pressure all exacerbated by lock down and how complicated and scary this world can feel right now.

Just having the time to focus and explore why they may be feeling the way they do, and how to manage these difficult emotions can really help them to grow and feel safer and more self aware.

I also work with young people with special education needs (SEN) and adopt a creative approach to suit their individual needs. We will often use music, voice, instruments, role play, art and have even recorded a podcast style interview for a 16 year old who preferred to hear his own voice being spoken as he talked about his difficult journey trying to fit in to mainstream school. He was able to have a perspective of his journey and realise just how far he had come, and how this would help him in his adult life.

Laughter and humour is a big factor in my practice and it can ease the feelings of apprehension and heaviness around unpacking so many difficult issues. In the right context, this can work wonders for confidence and motivation to change.

For information about my background and how I got into counselling please have a look at my website. My work is ever growing and I am currently working in Bristol Free school and for Teens in crisis as well as in private practice in Malvern and Bristol.

Please feel free to contact me for a 20 minute free consultation to see if I can help.

Tracy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
