About me

*APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE*

Hi Im Stuart, originally from Cornwall, now living, and practicing in South Derbyshire. I offer appointments in evenings, and on Friday daytimes. I offer a free initial appointment. I am warm and empathetic and love being a therapist so bring my all to every session. I offer a collaborative safe space for counselling for emotional healing, to support your mental health, improve wellness and supporting your growth.

I have a Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and I am qualified to work integratively by combining Person Centred Therapy with Attachment Theory and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). It is important to use methods which have good evidence for effective and safe ethical therapy. Importantly I work within the BACP ethical framework for your safety and assurance and im fully insured.

The most important component of counselling is relational depth ... that is the relationship between the counsellor and you, the client. It's proven that this relationship is more important than the type of therapy. I offer a free consultation session to get to know each other and decide if I'm a therapist you want to work with.

If you think you would like us to work together, please send me an email so we can start to discuss your therapy journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified with a Masters degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Derby.

I also work as a counsellor-psychotherapist for the NHS, helping clients work with a very wide range of problems. I am open to all clients within my scope of practice. I have experience with clients from the LGBQT community.

I am a trauma informed psychotherapist, which means I approach trauma in a safe manner.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
