About me
Hello, my name is Sophie and I am a qualified Counsellor working with individuals aged 18 or over.
I provide Face-to-Face counselling from a calm and relaxing space in Central Cheltenham or online counselling, to suit your needs.
It is not easy to make the decision to come to counselling and it takes courage to seek the help that you feel you might need.
There are many reasons that someone might seek out counselling:
Perhaps you are feeling stuck, finding it hard to make a change? Maybe you are feeling anxious, depressed or in a low mood that feels hard to shift? Perhaps there is something in your past which is having an impact on how you feel now in your life?
Whatever your reasons for choosing therapy, I am able to offer a confidential, warm, safe space in which to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It is important that you feel safe and supported and that we can create a secure relationship where you feel safe to acknowledge your true feelings and understand more about yourself.
It can be very powerful to be truly heard and accepted for who you really are, without judgement.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a CPCAB L4 Diploma (2018) in Therapeutic Counselling (person-centred and psychodynamic) and am trained to work integratively.
I work with a variety of clients including those with anxiety, depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, trauma and relationship difficulties.
I worked for 6 years as a counsellor for a charity in Gloucestershire, working with a range of clients including those in a caring role and those who have suffered trauma.
I am a registered, accredited member of the British Association For Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics.
I am currently adding to my skills by training for the CPCAB L5 diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This means I can also offer CBT sessions at a discounted rate whilst I am in training. CBT works by looking at your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours and the interplay between them. It involves techniques which are learned and practiced and is a more structured approach. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends CBT for a range of issues including anxiety, depression, panic attacks and much more. If that is an approach which you would be interested in, then we can talk about this at assessment and see if it could be helpful.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
