About me

If you're finding life difficult to navigate, know that you don't have to struggle alone.  1 in 4 of us will suffer from some type of mental health issue in our life and therapy can play an enormous and life affirming path to feeling better.

I work with diagnoses such as anxiety, OCD, panic attacks, health and social anxiety and depression.  However I find that most people don't fit into such neat categorisation. Many of my clients are dealing with more general difficulties like feeling sad, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, relationship breakups, body issues, loss, procrastination, motivation, loneliness... in other words struggling with the day-to-day of life.

Mental Health Issues Can Effect Everyone
You may have been feeling like this for quite a while or on the other hand you may be highly functioning and suddenly the wheels seem to have dropped off the cart.  Whatever your background or stage in life,  therapy helps you make sense of what's happening, how you are reacting and why.  With compassion and acceptance, I work with clients  to gain insight and find alternative ways to frame their experiences.

My approach to therapy is to work on three layers:

  • Work with you on gaining insight and understanding on your thoughts, behaviours, emotion and body.
  • Practical and proven help working with interventions to help with the current day-to-day and move from emotional distress - a CBT approach
  • Listening and walking with you as you move from this point of emotional pain towards acceptance and change.

MIND & BODY
Many clients benefit from what is called a top down & bottom up approach i.e. the work on our mind and on our physical ability to heal.  While working on our thoughts, emotions and behaviours, we can take advantage of the amazing physical resources we all have including breathing, polyvagal tone and working with the autonomic system; especially effective in treating anxiety.

EXPERIENCE WITH ALLIED COMMUNITIES
I am a LGBT+ ally and continue to dedicate a proportion of my practice to this community.

I also have experience working with neuro diverse clients, especially young autistic adults and the intersection between autism and trans identifying.

Low self-esteem & low confidence - the overlap with low self worth and anxiety and depression is huge. I have a set programme which is stand alone but often runs in parallel to other therapeutic work.

Business and Business Owners - before coming back to psychology I had a 25yr business career including running my own agency.  Career and work related issues are a special interest.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
