About me

My name is Shakerra and I am an Humanistic Integrative counsellor. I offer a supportive trusting counselling service where your voice can be heard.

You may be struggling with issues from your past that are impacting you in the here and now, you may be experiencing difficulties in the present and want to make sense of this, you may be consumed with negative thoughts, anxious thoughts, difficulties in relationships and may feel overwhelmed and exhausted.

I will work collaboratively with you, softly guiding you towards self-awareness. Together we will unearth patterns, core beliefs, learnt behaviours and past experiences so that you can understand your inner world. During this process you may feel listened too, gain a sense of understanding, be empowered to make the positive changes that you want for yourself and reach a point of acceptance and contentment in your decisions.

My approach is based on empathy, compassion, understanding, and empowerment, where you are placed at the centre of the therapy.  You can expect a warm, safe, compassionate, non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

I use an integrative approach to counselling which means that I draw upon a rich and diverse range of theories. Combining the various therapeutic techniques to gain a true sense of who you are and what suits your individual needs.

I have experience of working with individuals from various backgrounds, covering a range of issues and I understand how social context and culture can shape our experiences. I am particularly interested in you as a whole person and your unique perspectives on how you see yourself and the world around you.

I’m aware that contending with life challenges can be tough especially if one feels misunderstood, I understand from my own lived experiences how liberating it can be when one is heard and seen. I therefore place special emphasis on cultivating this for my clients.

My first session

It is considered that the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist helps the therapy process. I understand that finding the right therapist can seem challenging, I therefore provide a free first session consultation to explore what brings you to therapy and to see if I am the right therapist for you. We will then discuss how we will proceed going forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
