About me

Hi, I'm Sara, a therapist based in Leeds. I am currently accepting new clients for online work - my main availability is on Tuesdays. I have over a decade's experience supporting people with their mental health in multiple settings. As a therapist, I have worked in bereavement, mental health and University services. Most recently, I have worked as a counsellor for a sexual violence charity.

Who do I work with?

During this varied experience, I have worked with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures and experiences. I have a passion for working with people from the LGBTQ+ community, and offering a therapeutic space to those who may feel on the margins of society. Within my work, I will work hard to create a space that feels both safe and empowering.

How do I work?

I am a relational psychotherapist and I work in an integrative way. This means that I use a range of therapeutic theories and models with each client. Working relationally means I am interested in how we relate to the people in our lives and how they relate to us.

As a therapist I will have no expectations of you, the space will be dedicated to you, each week, to focus on what feels right. We may initially set some hopes for therapy, but this can evolve over time.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified therapist and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work to the BACP’s ethical framework, which means I undertake regular supervision and commit to engaging in ongoing training and development. I have a BSc (Hons) Counselling and Therapeutic Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have undertaken Mental Health First Aid training with Mental Health First Aid England, and Suicide First Aid (ASIST).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
