About me
Welcome!
Coming to counselling can feel very daunting. You may not know what to expect, or whether I can help. I offer an initial phone consultation which normally lasts around 20 minutes. This just allows us to chat and see what you need help with, and for us to decide if we can work together. Then, if we feel right for each other, we'll meet for our first session, where I'll take more details and start our work together. I offer both short and long term therapy, for individuals and intimate partners, depending on your needs.
I have experience and training in dealing with:-
- Childhood trauma
- Narcissistic and emotional abuse
- Self-harm
- Relationship breakdowns/divorce
- Betrayals/affairs
- Grief and bereavement
- Low self-esteem and confidence difficulties
- Low mood, depression and anxiety
- Chronic illness
- Body image difficulties
- Intimate partner/couples therapy
If you don't see yourself in any of these, we may still be able to work together. I will always be honest if I think there may be a more suitable therapist for your needs, and do my best to point you in the right direction. Ultimately, the relationship we create together is the most important factor.
As a person-centred therapist your autonomy in our work together is paramount. You are in charge. No one knows you like you do, and my aim is to get to know who you are by asking questions, listening to your story, and gently challenging your perceptions to help me understand you better, as you learn about yourself. I'll accept you just as you are, trying to understand the world just as you see it, to find the blocks that are stopping you feeling really fulfilled. I work in a trauma informed way, and with your consent and when it is appropriate, use aspects of body based therapy in my work; guiding you to reconnect your mind and body, and helping you to understand how your body kept you safe then, and how those adaptive patterns might be disrupting your life now.
I started the journey to becoming a counsellor very long time ago, when my first experience having counselling as a teenager made a lasting impression. It's been a winding road, but I always knew I had a passion for helping people in the same way as she helped me all those years ago. Since then I have had many life changing experiences in my own therapy and so I know what a privilege it is to be able to do this work. I am fully qualified and insured. My qualification is a Foundation Degree in Counselling, and I am a registered member of National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. I embrace diversity and aim to be an inclusive practitioner.
