About me

Integrative Counsellor and EMDR Therapist.

COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY

Counselling offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for exploring and processing emotional difficulties and life’s challenges. Through a collaborative process, we will identify and strengthen your coping strategies and gain new insights.  All of us can benefit from feeling empowered through getting in touch with our own inner resources, and adopt a more proactive approach towards maintaining a balanced way of being and functioning in our lives.

By gaining a deeper understanding of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours,  we will work on finding ways of dealing with what might be troubling you.  We will expand your choices in how you manage emotions, relationships and navigate your way safely and more confidently through difficult or overwhelming times.

Through my experience of working as a counsellor in a university staff & student counselling service, in a GP practice, and for a community counselling centre, I have gained experience addressing a variety of issues including: work related stress, self-confidence issues, grief, depression, anxiety, abuse, relationship issues, miscarriage, childhood sexual abuse, assault, emotional abuse, family issues, stress and trauma.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing) is an evidence based innovative clinical therapy that is used within the NHS and worldwide for the treatment of trauma, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) as well as anxiety-related disorders.

EMDR is a time efficient modality that significantly reduces intrusive thoughts, anxiety, flashbacks, avoidant behaviour, and disturbing memories. EMDR effectively heals after-effects of distressing experiences such as car accidents, assault, incidents of bullying, domestic violence, sexual abuse, childhood neglect and other traumatic experiences. It is also used to treat panic disorders, phobias and performance anxiety.

Through facilitating activation of new adaptive networks in the brain, EMDR noticeably alleviates emotional and physiological distress.

Course of treatment usually requires 6 to 12 sessions, depending on presenting issues.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
