About me

Whether you are exploring the option of counselling and psychotherapy for a specific reason or you want to further examine aspects of yourself and your life experiences. I provide a non-judgemental, safe, confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings and to support your wellbeing.

I'm an Integrative Therapist which means I use a range of approaches and techniques to best suit your individual wants and needs. This can include Psychodynamic ways of working, Person-Centred therapy and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).  I’m very happy to discuss and explain these further.

I seek to work in a collaborative way with clients, working together to explore narratives or experiences, or try out certain strategies or ways of approaching things, in order to achieve a desired outcome.

I work with both adult clients and young people from aged 13 upwards.

I am also a practising Christian and for clients who share this faith, we could work from this frame of reference and through a biblical lens.

I  can support you with:

  • Making peace with your past
  • Understanding of yourself
  • Behavioural change
  • Supporting through transition
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Managing challenges
  • Working with anxiety and depression
  • Relationship struggles
  • Family matters
  • Faith issues

Clients have benefitted from Counselling and Psychotherapy in different ways and we can tailor our work together to best suit you and your needs.

Through counselling it may be that you find yourself:

  • Coping with challenges better
  • Using strategies to manage intense feelings or thoughts
  • Gaining a better understanding of yourself and your experiences
  • Healing from your past
  • Having an increased sense of peace and acceptance for who you are
  • Having healthier dynamics within relationships

 Every counselling journey is different.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have many years of experience working therapeutically with children, young people and adults in the public, charity and health sectors. These experiences led me to gain more formal training and qualify as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist.

My qualifications include:

  • Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Post-Graduate Certificate in Enhanced Evidence-Based Practise from CYP-IAPT (Children and Young People Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies)
  • BCUK (Biblical Counselling UK) Year 1 Certificate Course
  • BSc in Early Childhood Studies

I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and registered with the ACC (Association of Christian Counsellors).

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

If you're interested in working with me the first step would be to set up an initial phone call where you can talk freely about what brought you to me, along with any goals you may wish to achieve, and questions you may have about therapy. You will also experience what I’m like and how I work. I can explain my policy on confidentiality, payment and cancellations.

After our initial meeting, if you decide I am the right fit for you, we can work together to build a plan for you – it may be just a few sessions or on an open-ended basis. It helps to decide upon a time-frame together from the outset, but nothing is set in stone, and we can always review the work as it unfolds.
