About me

I'm an integrative, person-centred counsellor, and have been qualified for 17 years.

Before private practice I was a counsellor in the NHS for over 10 years, particularly helping people overcome anxiety, depression, low-self esteem, low self-confidence, difficult family, partner or social relationships and trauma.

I started out by volunteering at local mental health charities counselling people living with drug and alcohol addiction, life-threatening illness, bereavement and disability.

Whether you're troubled by something specific or a more general feeling that you can't put your finger on, I’ll help you to make sense of it at your own pace and support you along the way.

You won’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to.

I work online via Zoom and by telephone which means I can be more flexible with the appointments I offer, including early morning and evening appointments.  You can choose whether we work together for an agreed number or sessions or in an ongoing way, and whether we meet weekly or fortnightly.

I offer concessions depending on your circumstances and am happy to discuss this with you.

For my MSc I researched how times of profound mutual understanding, trust and openness happen and how they affect the counselling relationship.  I encourage those qualities between us and will make sure that you feel safe and supported throughout.

What to expect from the first appointment

The first appointment is for 60 minutes.

We'll talk through your reasons for choosing counselling, what you expect and what you hope for, and I’ll answer any questions that you have.  We’ll agree on an initial number of sessions and arrange the practical details of appointments.

If I think that a different type of help is more appropriate I’ll discuss this with you.  If you decide that working with me is not right for you, you’re under no obligation to continue.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Please call, text or email me using the details above if you have any questions or would like to book an appointment.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
