About me

The chances are you or a loved one has been struggling with something for a while and it’s not going away. Seeking counselling, particularly for the first time, is a massive step and requires some courage. I offer empathy and understanding, as well as my undivided attention on whatever you choose to bring and at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Life is a series of transitions based on life stages, relationships and change all of which can bring up feelings of loss, uncertainty and anxiety. I provide a safe, non-judgemental space where feelings can be vented, talked about and thought about. Making sense of them and thinking about where they’ve come from and what triggers them can be truly liberating.

I am a qualified counsellor and therapist. I use a creative and dynamic approach which works with all ages including young adults and children.

I work with:

  • Adults
  • New parents
  • Young people
  • Children

Adults Be it short-term or more long-term therapy I offer a safe and creative space so that trauma, relationships and experiences from the past and in the present can be explored, understood better and worked through. Making links between past and present if appropriate can help you recognise destructive patterns and relationships. Understanding the source of your behaviour can give you freedom to make different, more positive choices in the future.

New parents becoming a new parent is one of life's major transitions and can bring up complex feelings, some rooted in the past. Postnatal depression, especially in men, often goes undiagnosed and guilt and shame sometimes gets in the way of seeking help. Talking about the feelings can help them feel less intense, understanding them makes them feel less powerful.  In addition to long-term counselling I offer one-off consultations, drawing on my experience of working with new parents, these might take a more solution based approach.  After 2 sessions clients have reported feeling more confident and in control.

1 in 7 mothers experience postnatal depression. It is less known that men can suffer from it in almost equal amounts.

Young adults and children faced with physical and physiological changes, identity uncertainty, pressures of exams and social media can benefit from a place where they can feel safe and just be. Some may choose to talk but for others drawing, painting, art materials might be an easier way to express and explore their feelings.

If you think I can help please contact me for an informal chat. Typically we would then arrange to meet for an assessment at which point we can together decide if and how to move forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a psychodynamic therapist at Manor House Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I then continued my training with Place2be and qualified as a child counsellor. I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and am governed by their code of conduct and ethical framework.

Areas of Specialism: I have experience of working with a wide range of clients, exploring anger, anxiety and depression. I have a particular interest in working with life's transitions including adolescence, miscarriage, childbirth, adoption, redundancy, long-term illness and loss.  I have long-term experience of working with new parents particularly with relationship difficulties and postnatal depression. I am also passionate about working with young people and the challenges they face.

My experience is drawn from working for the National Childbirth Trust, mental health charities, schools and colleges. I have worked extensively with new parents over the loss, identity changes, attachment and postnatal depression that this major transition brings.  I have also been part of a Covid-19 initiative offering Bereavement counselling for those who have lost loved ones during the pandemic.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
