About me

I offer warm, empathic and professional counselling in a safe space, aiming to nurture your emotional wellbeing. I am a humanist integrative counsellor, meaning that I bring my whole self and a range of approaches, flexibly, to meet your unique self. I believe passionately in human potential. My aim is to develop an open, valuing and compassionate therapeutic relationship, where you can be truly seen and heard for who you are. Creating a place where you can reflect on and explore aspects of your life that you find difficult, in confidence, helping you move forward along your life path.

People may seek counselling for all sorts of reasons; whether it's for help with life's emotional wear and tear or because of deep distress. Counselling is an opportunity to explore any worries or concerns that are important to you. Talking, in confidence to a therapist about your thoughts and feelings, in a safe and calm settling, can help you to make sense of your emotions actions and choices. It can facilitate personal growth, unlock your potential and help you to develop ways of dealing with challenges in your life.

I work with adults and offer one to one, face to face counselling sessions from my room at Seale Hayne Campus. This is a first floor, south facing, airy and spacious room. There is free parking and a large lawned area with seating and a cafe in the Quadrangle. I am also able to offer sessions over the phone or via zoom.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. This means that I am guided by the BACP code of ethics, undergo regular supervision and keep my skills and knowledge updated.

I have an advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Iron Mill College in Exeter. Being a humanist, integrative therapist means that I can work in a variety of ways to suit each individual client, focusing on what's important to you and at a pace that suits you. My therapeutic approach includes aspects of Transactional Analysis, Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioural therapy, but is primarily rooted in a Person Centred perspective. I believe in our ability to grow as unique individuals. My aim is to support you in working towards a deeper understanding of yourself and your world, moving closer towards reaching your full potential.

I have worked in the health profession for over 15 years, for 13 years as a GP and I have experience of working with many aspects of mental health and psychological well-being. I have always had a special interest in mental health and emotional well-being, and in the healing value of a therapeutic relationship. I have long been and advocate of using talking therapies, and after finding counselling extremely helpful in my own life journey I began counselling training. I now work for Counsellors Southwest, a community interest company delivering NHS counselling sessions in GP practices as well as in private practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
