About me

I’m Paula and I'm glad you found my page. People seek counselling for all kinds of reasons, but perhaps you feel overwhelmed, stressed, stuck or worried about something that is happening in your life, or just not coping and know something needs to change. I provide support and guidance towards emotional healing, personal growth and change to individuals.

I run my private practice in Didsbury and have created a private, comfortable and calming environment.  It is a non judgemental, nurturing space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and problems.  I am empathetic and will always be open and honest in our relationship.   I have been described as calming, with a warm and gentle nature.

What I can help with

I work with anxiety related issues, low mood, self esteem, major life transitions, attachment issues and bereavement.  I have a keen interest in helping individuals going through relationship difficulties.  Whether you are facing challenges in your intimate partnership, family dynamics, or friendships, I am here to help you make sense of what is happening and find a way forward.   Is the relationship making you unhappy and having a negative impact on your life?  Some of these issues can cause feelings of guilt and shame, have you questioning life's purpose or lead to breakdown in communication.  I will listen, support you and help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes.

I also have significant experience and additional training in bereavement counselling and I work alongside a bereavement support organisation. I understand the unique challenges that come with loss and grief as it can affect everyone so differently.

My approach to counselling

I offer a safe, confidential and warm environment and I welcome all of my clients with respect and acceptance.  Counselling is tailored to your unique individual needs. Some people have a very clear idea about the issues they wish to explore, others have an internal feeling that something isn’t right, but can’t put their finger on it. Person centred counselling isn’t about giving advice or telling you what to do, but helping you to gain clarity, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and cultivate a greater sense of self compassion, wellbeing and empowerment.  Whatever you are going through, I will be right beside you in a safe, supportive and caring way.

Starting counselling takes courage and the first step to reach out can sometimes feel like a challenge in itself. If you feel like you are struggling with any of the above, please get in touch.  I offer a free consultation so we can decide if we’re a good fit and for me to answer any questions you may have.

In addition to my professional qualifications, I have a deep understanding of some of the complex and varied roles that we often take on in our lives. I believe that my lived experience can be a valuable asset in creating a space where you feel heard, understood and supported.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
