About me

My name is Oliver Feldman, and I am an experienced person-centred psychotherapist based in Islington, working with clients across North and East London, including Hackney and King's Cross. I offer a collaborative space to explore what's going on, especially when things feel stuck, overwhelming, or hard to put into words.

When life feels uncertain or difficult to make sense of—whether through anxiety, low mood, or a sense of feeling stuck—it can be hard to know where to start. Often, the most helpful first step isn’t a 'fix', but a human connection. In fact, research consistently shows that the single most significant factor in successful therapy is the quality of the relationship between therapist and client. It offers something unique—a connection different from talking to a friend, family member, or (let’s be honest) even the most advanced AI algorithm.

My practice is grounded in the person-centred tradition. Some clients come to me with a formal diagnosis or are taking or considering taking medication, while for others, the struggle might be less defined. I respect the role these factors may play in your life, and I see these as important parts of the context you carry. However, I don't begin our work from a medical model of distress. Rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation, I'm interested in understanding your experience as you live it. In my practice, meaningful change is not forced or imposed. Instead, it grows naturally when you are met with genuine understanding, empathy, and presence. I trust your inner sense of what needs attention, even when it feels unclear at first.

The cornerstone of my work is humility. My priority is to be alongside you at every step of the way, without imposing my own direction on the work. In a space free from judgment, pressure or any external agenda, my clients often find they can reconnect with their own strengths, feel less alone with what they are carrying, and move through life with a steadier sense of purpose.

How I work

You might already know what's wrong and how you want to use therapy to help. But you don’t need to have a clear story, or even know exactly what you want from the process to begin. I offer a confidential, creative, informal and collaborative space which you can use to find a sense of agency, to know yourself better, and to help you confront and consider the challenges that are holding you back—all at your own pace.

Fundamentally I am here to help you understand your experience.

In your sessions, we might make make room for:

  • Contradictory feelings that are too painful to share elsewhere.
  • A vague sense that “something is off”.
  • The parts of your experience that feel intense or overwhelming.

Your needs might change from week to week, but whatever you bring, I will listen closely, responding with curiosity, genuineness and careful attunement as your unique personal meanings emerge and evolve.

The outcome of our work

The process of transformation experienced in therapy is often accompanied by a reinvigorated capacity for feeling, thinking and acting in more creative and passionate ways. It can open the door to a renewed sense of living more authentically; increased self-esteem; a greater sense of openness and trust both for yourself and for others; increased clarity with regard to purpose and self-worth; a reduction in the distressing effects of depression, anxiety and stress; a working through of painful experiences related to disappointment, grief and loss; and more enjoyment and pleasure in everyday life.

Taking the next step

It’s not unusual to feel trepidation about allowing another person to witness your fears and uncertainties, especially when things are feeling so raw or muddled. Reaching out can take real courage, so to help you decide if I am the right person to work with, I offer a free 50-minute initial exploratory session at my consulting rooms on Upper Street (N1).

The exploratory session is simply a chance for us to meet face-to-face and see how it feels to talk. It’s an opportunity for you to experience the steady, confidential space I offer, and to see if it’s a good fit for what you are carrying. There is no pressure to continue; the focus is entirely on ensuring you feel comfortable and safe enough to share whatever you need to bring.

Working together

If we decide to continue after our initial meeting, we will establish a regular weekly time and agree together on the fee and other professional boundaries.

I offer both short-term and open-ended therapy and believe that an initial commitment of six sessions is a realistic place to start exploring what you want to do in therapy. Your needs might change from session to session, but during this time we can collaboratively assess whether you would like to continue. Some people find these initial sessions are enough for them, while others prefer a longer-term relationship.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an MSc (with Distinction) and a Clinical Diploma in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute. I am a fully-registered clinical member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and follow their Code of Ethics and Professional Practice. I also attend regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development to support me in offering safe, thoughtful, emotionally attuned and socially conscious therapy.

Since, 2018 I’ve worked across a range of community-based services in London, supporting clients facing challenges concerning bereavement and losses of all kinds, relationships, identity, stress, anxiety, obsessive, intrusive or paranoid thoughts, compulsive behaviours, loneliness, low moods, depression, hearing voices, work difficulties, health related issues, post-traumatic stress, career challenges, and struggles with addiction.

In my private practice, I work with a broad spectrum of experience—from those navigating deep distress to individuals who are already flourishing but wish to use therapy as a dedicated space for creative exploration and personal growth.

Prior to completing my clinical training I worked as an editor both in London (where I was born and currently live) and Paris (where I lived for over a decade). The principles I learned working with writers – those of humility, curiosity, and creativity – are the same values I bring to my psychotherapy work.

This background informs my appreciation for the power and limits of language. My research on the experience of metaphor in therapy was published in the peer-reviewed journal Person-Centered & Experiential Psychotherapies in 2023, and I have a particular interest in experiences of identity, belonging, otherness, exile, and the way in which the social world impacts on the experience of living.

I believe that many of the things we struggle with—from shame and exhaustion, to the private sense of never being "enough"—can be internalised echoes of the systems and structures we live within. Viewed in this sense, the therapy I practice is not just about asking "am I living in a way which is deeply satisfying to me?". It also becomes a process of untangling what's actually yours from the things your world might have told you to carry.
