About me

Relational therapy means I am myself in relationship with you, rather than an ‘expert’ giving advice as to what you should do. I work with what is happening in the therapy relationship itself as well as the issues that brought you to seek therapy, because I believe that therapy is a powerful way to understand who we are in relation to others and to use that knowledge effectively in order to express ourselves fully.  I am a trauma-informed practitioner and qualified in EMDR therapy.

I am BACP-registered and accredited and fully insured, which gives you the assurance that I am a qualified professional who will work with you in a safe and ethical way.

My background is in training and education. I have more than 20 years’ experience as a facilitator in communication skills development for student doctors. I worked for ten years as a Specialist Mentor at a local University, working one-to-one supporting students with long-term mental health difficulties or a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum conditions. I have completed extensive specialist CPD in working with neurodivergence and am myself neurodivergent.  Like many women, confirmation of who I am came later in life.  Getting a diagnosis can be enormously liberating but it can also leave us alone with many unanswered questions.  Therapy with a well-informed practitioner can help.

I have particular interest in our relationship with the natural world and how our connection with it can help us heal. As well as working with you in a therapy room, I am able to offer the option of working outdoors (often called eco-therapy). This means finding a quiet space in nearby parkland where we can talk, sit or reflect, weather and daylight allowing.

About counselling

Though many people first seek therapy at a time of difficulty or crisis in their lives, therapy can also help us to understand any negative or repeating patterns in life and relationships with others; in finding a sense of identity and meaning in life, or as a space to talk through thoughts and feelings that are hard to share with friends or family. You may feel it would be helpful to work with me for a short time in order to look at a specific issue, or for a longer period in order to explore the roots of your concerns.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
