About me

Hi, I'm Michelle and I would like to introduce you to my counselling service.  As a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with a background in sexual abuse and domestic violence, I have helped women and men who have been affected by their trauma and worked with whatever they wished to bring, reviewing regularly and identifying if counselling is achieving what they want to achieve.  As a member of the BACP, I follow the Ethical Code of Practice and offer a safe and trusting environment through the use of talking therapy.  I believe that we can all write our own narrative in life, and every story that is written is unique and relative to the individual.  However, the path to our story can be long and winding and we may hit a few bumps along the way.  Some of the bumps we negotiate without too much difficulty, but other bumps throw a curve ball, that can be troublesome and may knock us off our feet.  We may become stuck and struggle to continue as events become too painful to explore and the meanings that we place on these experiences are difficult to make sense of.  It is these bumps I would like to help to support you over and back on track.  Through Talking Therapy I will walk alongside you on your journey to unravel that feeling of being stuck and support you on a path to healing.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer an initial telephone or online introductory session, to explore what you would like to gain through your counselling experience and how I can help you with this. Progression in your counselling journey can be accommodated through the various platforms offered and adjusted as and when required by mutual arrangement to suit your needs.

Further information

My background is in sexual abuse, domestic violence and trauma therapy, working with symptoms of depression, anxiety, guilt, shame, dissociation, PTSD and low self-esteem. My training is as an Integrative Counsellor and combines elements of different approaches, such as Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. By utilising the integrative method of therapy, I am able to take in to account you as an individual, your circumstance and can tailor the therapeutic journey to meet your needs, as ‘one size does not fit all’.
