About me
Hello. Do you struggle with feelings of not fitting in? Are you hard on yourself? Do you sometimes feel 'not good enough'?
Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself and others? Are there things going unspoken in your life?
Then maybe I can help.
I aim to provide a space where you can be yourself and talk about things from your point of view. What matters to me is what matters to you.
About Me
I'm a qualified and professionally registered person- centred and compassion-focused therapist. I believe that we can lead happier, more confident and connected lives and develop the ability cope with life's challenges if we have somebody alongside us to help us feel:
- seen, heard and validated.
- we can express ourselves without fear of judgement.
- we are treated genuinely, with respect and trust.
You might wonder how any of this can help but it's surprising how rarely we are offered this sort of support. In everyday life people often want to share their point of view rather than listen to ours. They often think they know what's best for us and what we should say or do.
My work is about hearing your voice and giving you the chance to talk about your needs. Sometimes our work will be about what you want for yourself and how you might achieve this. At other times, life can just be hard and not everything can be 'fixed' but your pain still needs to be shared.
Acknowledging what hurts and is difficult can help reduce feelings of isolation and be the first step towards healing. It can also help you be more compassionate towards yourself.
This focus on yourself can seem selfish or unfamiliar but, for me, it's about self-care and is an investment in your wellbeing and relationships.
If you recognise any of these challenges, struggles or hopes I mention here, then please get in touch by phone or email.
Best wishes
Melanie.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
