About me

Hello.

Do you struggle with feelings of not fitting in? Are you hard on yourself or often left with a sense of not being 'good enough'?

Perhaps you feel disconnected from yourself or from others. Are there things in your life that have gone unspoken? Feelings, needs or thoughts you've kept to yourself because it felt safer, easier or simply became a habit. Maybe there are conversations you replay afterwards, wishing you'd said what you really meant.

Or perhaps it's not only your own life that feels difficult. The constant flow of world events and uncertainty may leave you feeling anxious, overwhelmed, saddened or emotionally drained. You may find yourself wondering how to stay informed and connected without feeling consumed by it, or carrying feelings that can be difficult to make sense of or share with others.

If any of this resonates with you, then maybe I can help.

I aim to provide a space where you can be yourself and talk about things from your point of view. What matters to me is what matters to you.

About Me

I'm a qualified and professionally registered person-centred and compassion-focused therapist.

I believe we are better able to cope with life's challenges when we have someone alongside us who helps us feel:

 - Seen, heard and understood
 - Accepted without judgement
 -Able to express ourselves honestly
 - Treated with warmth, respect and trust

You might wonder how simply being listened to can make a difference, but it's surprising how rarely we experience this. In everyday life, people often want to share their point of view before they've fully heard ours. They may tell us what they think is best or what they believe we should say or do.

My work is about hearing your voice—not telling you who you should be or how you should live your life. Together, we can make space for your experiences, your thoughts and your feelings. Sometimes our work will focus on what you want for yourself and how you might move towards this. At other times, life can simply be hard. Not everything can be 'fixed', but that doesn't make your pain any less deserving of care, understanding or compassion.

Whether you're struggling with longstanding patterns, difficult relationships, feelings about yourself, or the impact of the wider world, therapy can offer a place to slow down, make sense of what you're carrying and reconnect with yourself at your own pace.

Acknowledging what hurts can reduce feelings of isolation and be the beginning of healing. Over time, it can also help you develop a kinder and more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Taking time to focus on yourself can feel unfamiliar or even selfish. I see it differently. I see it as an act of self-care and an investment in your wellbeing, your relationships and the life you want to live.

If anything you've read here resonates with you, you're welcome to get in touch by phone or email. We can explore whether working together feels right for you.

Best wishes,

Melanie

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
