About me

Do the 'what ifs' and 'shoulds' run through your head constantly, leaving you feeling stuck, anxious and adrift?

Does your inner critic talk down to you, leaving you never feeling good enough?

Perhaps you feel like you're tired and burnt out, always looking after others and living up to their expectations rather than putting yourself first. Do you find yourself looking for approval and validation from others, that you should 'be perfect'

Maybe you just feel a bit lost and uncertain in this changing post-pandemic world?

The pressures of modern society are very real and in recent years, have in many cases been amplified as many of us negotiate challenging times. There is often pressure for us to squeeze more and more in, to be perfect in every aspect of our lives, and to not complain or burden others. This can often leave us overwhelmed and anxious about how to cope and where to go next.

Speaking to someone impartial can truly help.

I'm Martin and I am a qualified counsellor with a focus on relational work. In simple terms, I believe that positive and supportive relationships can heal and I aim to provide a calm experience of such a relationship which acts as a steady base for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, to heal and move forward. In essence, a regular, non judgemental sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life where we can work together to explore and work through what is troubling you.

We will work together to help understand what makes up you. To gain an understanding of yourself and why you process things as you do, in turn building up your resilience and internal strength. To work with your inner self, building compassion and acceptance for yourself, in turn, rebuilding a connection with yourself and those around you.

On my journey, I spent years being told to man up, to keep up the facade in different aspects of my life. I felt that sense of being 'stuck', not knowing how to move forward, never feeling enough. I learnt not to show weakness or burden others until the pressure valve felt like it would pop until I eventually burnout.

Why do I tell you this? Perhaps it's because I want you to know I'm human too or simply because I want you to understand change really is possible. Back then, I was reluctant but reached out to help and a supportive therapist at that point changed my life. I know it can be a big step to ask for help and I'll do my best to put you at ease as we move forward together.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to their Professional Standards and Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
