About me

The foundation to my therapy is a Humanistic/Person Centred Approach. I believe that ultimately the client is the expert in the room. By offering warmth, understanding and by being genuine, I can help you reconnect with your inner resources to find your own way forward. I do not offer direct advice or give opinions as I believe in empowering the client to follow their own path.

Using an integrative approach I also believe other therapies hold enormous value and I can utilise these when working with clients who may benefit from these.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can be particularly useful for clients coping with anxiety and depression. For those clients that this may benefit we would be looking at introducing life-long tools to be used immediately and in the long term, enabling you to see a brighter future and reach your own state of balance and emotional well-being.

Psychodynamic counselling would look at patterns in behaviour and perhaps exploring your past. This approach stresses the importance of the unconscious and past experience in determining current behaviour. We may focus on childhood relationships with parents and/or other significant people.

As well as these approaches I have experience in Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness.

I have experience and interest in working with the following areas:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Self-Harm/Suicidal Thoughts
  • Grief, Loss and Bereavement
  • Relationship Issues
  • Stress at Work, General Life Stresses
  • Significant Life Changes

Whatever the difficulties you are currently facing, please feel free to get in touch and allow yourself the opportunity to see whether we can work together to make the changes you desire.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor having completed my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at Coleg Gwent, which is a model combining elements of humanistic, psychodynamic, relational and cognitive behaviour therapy.

I have also achieved a Degree is Systemic Counselling at the University of South Wales. Systemic counselling seeks to address people not only on the individual level, but also as people in relationships, dealing with the interactions of groups and their interactional patterns and dynamics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
