About me

In my experience, we tend to come to therapy when we feel 'stuck' in a way of living which is becoming increasingly difficult and painful to sustain. Perhaps when our 'old' self seems to have gone missing; our self-esteem is fragile; our past casts long shadows on our present and the future feels more scary than exciting. If any of this resonates with you, my existential approach to therapy will provide you with a safe place in which to explore and process any trauma in your past; pain in the present and anxiety about the future. Helping you to bring the 'real you' out of hiding and find a more joyful and authentic way of living.

Simply put, existential therapy provides an opportunity to explore what it means to be alive and to find a way of living at peace with ourselves and all the challenges and opportunities life presents - before it's too late. In the words of Marcus Aurelius: 'It is not death we should fear, but never having begun to live.'

Within a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship, I will encourage you to practice self-acceptance and to examine issues and feelings you may have been avoiding for too long. Reflecting my belief in Irvin Yalom's view that 'The act of revealing ourself fully to another and still being accepted may be the major vehicle of therapeutic help.'

Training, qualifications & experience

In addition to my formal training, my approach to therapy is informed by my own 59 years of life; in all its light and shade, sadness and joy.

I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and have been working with clients since 2020. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.

I have particular expertise in working with people who have experienced significant trauma, including physical, psychological and sexual abuse.

When working with trauma, I share Carl Jung's view that, 'We are not what happened to us, we are who we choose to become.' I will support you to safely explore past trauma and any associated feelings of shame or unworthiness. And help you find ways to release yourself from any control the past still exerts on your present and future.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My therapy room is on the ground floor and accessible to most wheelchair users. I also work online and offer home visits to further enhance the accessibility of my service.
