About me
I am an accredited psychotherapist with more than 30 years experience. I see clients with all kinds of personal difficulty and have specialist training and expertise in sexual and relationship difficulties and gender issues (dysphoria). I worked in the NHS for 27 years as a senior psychotherapist and supervisor. I now see clients in private practice.
During my long therapy career I have helped many young people find their way in life; their identity, self esteem, dealing with family breakdown, sexuality. Having the opportunity to explore in a non judgemental way how they are experiencing their difficulties can really help them come to terms with and accept the person they are.
Working with couples of all ages has given me a real insight into what people expect in a relationship. When I started couple relationship and sex therapy training in 1985 there was very little research available into possible physical causes and how they impact on sexual functioning, this has now improved enormously and because of my NHS work I can point couples to the appropriate help. Communication difficulties has always been one of the main reasons for couple disharmony and sexual dissatisfaction for instance seems hard to confront with a partner. The benefit of using a third person is that it can take the heat out of the situation and the experienced therapist is able to sensitively look at their situation in a more balanced way. Ageing brings other difficulties, for instance women suffering vaginal dryness, men realising their erections not as strong as they were and as a couple facing empty nest syndrome and needing help in rediscovering their relationship. I really have a wealth of knowledge of all the different couple problems - financial, work, infidelity to name just a few.
I am warm and welcoming and well aware how frightening it is for some people to visit a complete stranger and be expected to 'open up' so am happy to talk on the phone and answer any of your questions before you decide if I am the right for therapist for you. My approach is eclectic and thus my work is very client centred.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

COSRT is the UK’s leading membership organisation for therapists specialising in sexual and relationship issues.
All members must abide by their Code of Ethics and the performance of accredited members is regularly monitored.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
