About me

People seek counselling for a wide variety of reasons and it may be for feelings of anxiety, unhappiness or dissatisfaction with life in general, depression, low mood or the experience of repeated relationship issues. Others seek counselling for painful emotions relating to life events and experiences including, generalized anxiety, illness or bereavement.

My name is Liz Mace and as an experienced and fully Accredited & Registered BACP counsellor, I work with both adults and young people on an individual basis. I offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and reliable setting for our meetings together. My work is underpinned by a psychodynamic approach, and I also have experience working with other models of counselling including CBT, Mindfulness and Person centred modalities.

I offer weekly individual therapy, on either short term (6-12 week) or longer term, open-ended therapy, depending on Assessment of need.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully Accredited and Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP, Accred) with an Accredited BACP and Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. I have full Professional Indemnity Insurance.   My private practice is based in Highfield, Southampton.

I have experience of working in independent private practice, for charitable counselling organisations and for higher education, University Counselling Services. This has enabled me to continually develop my knowledge, expertise and skills. This experience has facilitated an in-depth knowledge and understanding with respect to the many and varied issues presented by clients.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Key details

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

There is plenty of on road parking.
