About me

Life can be very challenging and sometimes it feels too much for us to cope with alone. Counselling offers a safe space for you to be heard, to work with an empathetic trained professional in order to explore what is causing you pain or not working in your life, and to figure out how to move forward in a way that’s right for you.

Email me or give me a call and we can talk about what you're hoping to get out of counselling and how we can work together to make that happen.

I have a humanistic approach, which means I work collaboratively with my clients as they seek to make sense of their lives and the world around them. I have worked with clients facing a wide range of challenges and issues, both on a short-term and long-term basis. Areas of focus include (but are not limited to) anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationships, family issues, bereavement, suicidal thoughts, abuse and trauma. I am experienced in working therapeutically with clients face-to-face, on the phone or online – clients choose what works best for them.

Face-to-face sessions are held in comfortable, confidential premises. I am currently working from two locations in York: Millers Yard on Gillygate and a venue on Micklegate, both of which are close to parking and easily accessible by public transport.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced, qualified counsellor with an MA in Counselling from York St John University. In addition to working in private practice, I have worked with the following organisations:

  • 1-2-1 Counselling, York
  • Spurriergate Counselling Service
  • Samaritans
  • York Mind

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
