About me

I trained with WPF Therapy, a London institution with a reputation for clinical and academic excellence. I hold a post graduate diploma in psychotherapy theory and practice from the University of Roehampton.

My own experience of therapy as a young teen was positively life changing. It did much more than sort out my muddled and confused mind it also brought about an inner self awareness and self confidence that was empowering. It also provided me with a capacity for ongoing self-analysis. Witnessing a family member suffer with mental health issues left me feeling quite helpless; it was a difficult and distressing time. These personal experiences are in part what inspired me to embark on a career in this profession.

Therapeutic Approach:

As a psychodynamic therapist my approach acknowledges that there is more to ourselves than our conscious awareness. Our thinking, feelings, behaviours and actions are informed by our lifetime of experiences which are held within our unconscious mind. Unwittingly we develop defence mechanisms to keep these experiences from entering our conscious awareness particularly painful events and memories. These defences use up much energy protecting us and preventing us from confronting them; so much so they can exhaust us and wear us down. What's more they impact our attitudes and how we think, feel, behave and act which we sometimes not altogether understand. This can leave us with more unwanted feelings. My therapeutic approach helps to understand and make sense of what is not understood and brings about understanding and inner contentment.

First Step:

It does take courage to recognise that help is needed and even more courage to make the first step and book an appointment with someone. I offer an exploratory consultation which will last 90 minutes. I will invite you to talk about what brings you to therapy. It is understood that the nature of what you have to talk about might be difficult or uncomfortable to discuss. The consultation will enable me to consider how your difficulties are affecting you and discuss what therapy is best suited to your needs. The session will conclude with a recommendation of how best to proceed. It is important to point out that I provide a non-judgmental service and work in the strictest of confidence.

The Work:

Time is set aside for you each week to explore your most inner thoughts, feelings and difficulties, which will support you to understand yourself better and move forward. Sessions take place at the same time and place each week and last 50 minutes. Short term therapy - is a way of working where goals will be predetermined with a set programme duration and known endpoint to the work. This type of intervention can be helpful in addressing symptoms associated with an event: a bereavement, redundancy, a case of bullying and harassment, poor work performance, a traumatic incident or a relationship difficulty.  Open-ended therapy - the scope of this work is less defined and allows for themes to emerge and to be worked though at a comfortable pace. This work does not have a predetermined end point and instead is discussed at a time that feels right to do so.

Where I Practice:

I practice via video conference and or phone sessions. You will require access to a room where you can talk freely without being interrupted or overheard.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
