About me

Hello, I'm Laura. I offer a warm, safe and supportive therapy space where you can be heard. Whatever you choose to share will be held in a confidential, secure and respected environment. We are all unique and I respect your individuality, therefore our work will be tailored to meet your individual needs and wishes.

When I'm not in the therapy room, you might find me in the sea or out in the mountains!

How Psychotherapy can help you

We all have a past that influences how we live our lives today and these life experiences can shape our view of ourselves, others, and the world. We can sometimes get stuck in unhelpful patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviour that can be limiting or destructive to us. Psychotherapy is a wonderful way of helping us understand ourselves and our situations better. In our work, we can help you become aware of old patterns that are no longer serving you and offer you the space to make new decisions so that lasting change can occur. I will work with you to get to the heart of the issue so you can take back control and live a more authentic and autonomous life.

My Approach

I believe our relationship will be an important vehicle in the transformation of change, therefore building a stable and trusting therapeutic relationship will be the first part of our work together. We will work together to explore the different parts of self and help you to heal from past experiences that might be contributing to your present day problems.

I am active in my approach, and I often ask questions, offer insights, and highlight patterns to help you become more self-aware. It is through this self-awareness that I believe healing, growth and change can occur.

It can take bravery to start this work and it can at times be challenging. It is therefore important that you choose the right therapist for you. I offer a free 30-minute initial meeting so you have a chance to meet me and experience what it is like to work together. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or queries on what working together might be like.

Couples therapy

The need to be in relationship is an important part of human identity and existence. Relationships can be difficult and can highlight communication issues, attachment patterns, fears around intimacy, connection and belonging, alongside our worth and value to name a few. Couples enter into therapy for many reasons and it might be family conflict, difficult life transitions, work-related stress or financial struggles that is causing problems in your relationship.

Our work will involve exploring and understanding the difficulties you may be facing in your relationship, whilst having the safety of a therapist to hold whatever might arise between you. We may also look at how your historical relational patterns may be contributing to present day difficulties in your relationship. Couples therapy can help you to become aware of repeated patterns, improve communication and interactions with one-another and gain clarity in the relationship so that you can work towards a relationship that feels more fulfilling for you both.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a post-graduate Level 7 Diploma in Integrative Transactional Analysis and I am a fully qualified Psychotherapist, accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and I work to the ethical codes and procedures of these organisations.

I have over 15 years’ experience of working with people in a therapeutic capacity and more latterly, experience of working within the child and adolescent care system. I have worked with various Mental Health charities and organisations, alongside my private practice work.

I have a particular interest in working with those who have experienced Abuse and Trauma which often manifest in different presenting issues. Some of which might include Anxiety, Depression, Lost Sense of Self, Identity Issues, Low Self-esteem and Self-harm.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
