About me

Life can be a challenge and there may come a time that you are no longer able to deal with your feelings and emotions on you own, that’s where I may be able to help. My name is Kyla and I offer counselling to individuals and couples over 18.

Sessions with me are usually conducted face to face in my beautiful counselling suite in the heart of Leamington spa. However there are a range of alternatives available, be that walking and talking therapy, telephone counselling, on-line counselling or creative sessions. My aim is always to tailor the sessions in the best way to meet your needs, lifestyle and availability. For this reason I do not ask you to attend a set session every week, you set the frequency of your sessions, they may be weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. If you need a set time then that session becomes yours for the duration of our sessions together.

I often get asked “why do people come to counselling?” My answer is simple.. It's usually  because they want something to change.  Counselling is a hard process and the client feels brave enough to find out more. That change could be a relationship, a mindset or a life stage.  It could also be about wanting to change or accept something within yourself. Change can be painful and difficult, Our lives tend to be full of expectations, not just our own but the people around us, we carry around so many “should’s, could’s, must’s” My aim is to help you work through the negative feelings leaving you with a healthier sense of self. Enabling you to feel better equipped to deal with the day to day challenges of life.  This is your journey and as such I aim to facilitate your needs as much as possible. Sometime sitting opposite somebody could feel too daunting which is why I offer a range of options, such That as walking and talking therapy, creative therapy, fortnightly, evening, early morning appointments.

Individuals
I strongly believe that every person is unique and therefore the focus of my practice is YOU. I want to know how life is for you, how you experience your feelings, thoughts, symptoms or diagnosis. You are more than words on a piece of paper, to me you are unique.
If you are experiencing feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety, sadness, grief, loss, stress or anger and wish to feel differently I may be able to help. Individual therapy focuses on building a trusting relationship between you and I. I look further than the diagnoses, I want to know how you experience anxiety, grief, depression or loss. What works for you, and what you would like to change. Everybody is individual and I want to celebrate that individuality and find a path that works for you. A path you carve out,  I will walk alongside you in your journey. Supporting you therapeutically when things get hard which is inevitable in therapy because you are opening up past or present hurts and looking ahead to a different future.  Therapy isn't about making you into somebody different, it's about uncovering the real you.

I pride myself in treating all clients fairly, with respect and dignity, seeing the person in front of me and not the diagnosis. I have seen clients with many diagnoses including, stress, anxiety, depression, post natal depression, OCD, personality disorders, Living losses and grief.  You do not have to have a diagnoses of any sort to seek therapy, you may be at a junction in your life and you need somebody neutral to discuss your feelings with. For me it is vital to see the person behind that diagnosis, feeling or thought. Finding out what’s important to you and what changes you wish to make.

I want to offer a safe, non judgmental, calm, comfortable, confidential space, where you can explore the themes you wish to explore without the expectations of others.

Couples

Couples counselling is slightly different to individual therapy because individual therapy focuses on the relationship between the therapist and the client, however, couples therapy focuses on the relationship between the couple with me as the therapist very much on the outside.

COUPLES DO NOT NEED TO BE MARRIED IN ORDER TO ENGAGE IN SESSIONS.

Sessions are used to discuss not only current issues but issues that occur repeatedly because often the underlying pattern is missed. During sessions individuals are encouraged to listen to understand instead of listening to respond. ( this is a skill and not something that is always easy)

Homework may be set which encourages you to re-connect with each other, The key to a good relationship lies in good communication, and that is something that we often forget.

During therapy we will look at both couple goals and individual goals so that you are able to build a relationship that you are both happy with.

The therapy I offer for couples focuses on communication between the couple. Learning how to get both individual and couples needs met. I see couples who wish to

*learn to communicate better,

*couples following an affair,

*couples in conflict,

*couples who have decided to separate but wish to do so in a calm respectful manor.

* Couples who wish to have premarital therapy in order to iron out issues before getting married.

You don't need to wait until you are in crisis before seeking help. You may wish to learn to communicate better, or even argue better. We are never going to agree 100% of the time so learning to be respectful during a disagreement is a key to resolving conflict. Difference and sameness are both needed to make the relationship work.

If you would like to find out more please email me with your questions, alternatively please give me a call and we can find out if I’m the right counsellor for you.

either email or telephone communication (this is your choice), following an initial discussion regarding availability we provisionally book a session. I will then send you an assessment form, contract and payment details, sessions are confirmed upon recipient of payment. Should you wish to cancel your session a full refund will be offered if done prior to the 48 hour cancellation policy. I am more than happy to answer any questions you many have.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
