About me

Help is at hand!

Are you feeling overwhelmed with all these profiles and don't quite know the difference between them?  I'm guessing you haven't even heard of some of the therapies they describe?  Well if this sounds like you, look no further.  I've written a blog all about counselling that may help explain some of the things you're experiencing whilst trying to find the right therapist for you, such as:

  • When is counselling therapy required?
  • Where does counselling take place?
  • Which therapeutic approach is best for me?
  • What is counselling therapy?
  • Is counselling confidential?
  • What do people talk about during counselling therapy sessions? Where to start.
  • Can counselling help me or can counselling make me feel worse?
  • Will counselling give me the answers I need?
  • Does counselling work?

And a bit about me...

I have worked for over twenty years with adults of all ages, children as young as five, and teens who have usually encountered some form of difficulties with their relationships, be that friends, family or partners, at school, work or in their personal life. Many have experienced a variety of challenging life experiences too.

I have experience of working therapeutically with individuals, supporting them through their unique experiences of anxiety, coping with bereavement of parents, grandparents, unborn siblings, relationship difficulties with peers, self-esteem or family issues, as well as other problems too.  I also work with counselling students in training.

I am accredited with the National Counselling Society and work with adults aged 18 and over. I provide support with relationship difficulties, low mood or depression, anxiety, panic attacks, self-esteem, loss/bereavement, trauma, abuse,  self-harm and suicidal thoughts, violence, anger, and domestic abuse.

I offer short term counselling where we can work through more specific or urgent problems, or long-term counselling for more intricate issues or for things that may need deeper exploration. I work face to face, online and via telephone.

I am friendly, nurturing, and creative, which may help you feel more at ease, I appreciate attending therapy is a brave step and can sometimes feel scary. We will work together to gently explore what you're experiencing so it makes more sense to you. Having a better understanding brings reassurance, and with this comes increased self-confidence.  My aim is to help you move forward in life and find the path you want to be on.

Over the years I have volunteered with charities close to my heart and now have my own private practice.  I have an enhanced DBS certificate and comply with all professional standards required.

I began counselling with Childline back in the 90's and more recently increased my qualification at degree level in Humanistic Counselling, with a First-Class Honours.   My initial training included a focus on trauma, grief and loss, addictions, sex and sexuality and solution focused practice. I've since expanded my training to include an 80-hour course in online counselling. I love learning and frequently attend training courses to expand my knowledge and skills.  I'm passionate about helping people find their way, if you're feeling lost, please get in touch.  I offer a free initial consultation so we can discuss what brings you to therapy and if we are a good fit for each other.  Email kay@yourpersonaltherapist.co.uk or call 07908874708.  You may need to leave a voicemail including your name, contact number, and availability.
