About me

Hi,

I'm Kat and I'm a Counsellor working with people who struggle with loss, bereavement and self esteem/confidence issues.

Life can be difficult to deal with and perhaps you have lost someone or are struggling with your self esteem and sense of self worth.

Losing someone is never easy. You might need some extra support to come to terms with what has happened and what you are experiencing. You might have lost your pet and are struggling with the heartbreak and to adjust to life without them. Please know that you are not alone.

I will help you to talk through your feelings at your own pace in a safe space and together we will explore what your loss means to you and how you can move forwards.

You might be experiencing low self esteem and feel that you have lost your confidence. You might have a tendency to people please, find it difficult to make decision or to communicate your needs. You might feel like your feelings and needs don't matter. You might have gone through a difficult experience that has affected the way you see and feel about yourself.

I can help you to work through your feelings, to gain a better understanding of what is going on for you, to come to terms with past experiences and to build your confidence, so that you can live the life you envision for yourself.

As well as general therapy, I also offer Bereavement and Pet Bereavement Therapy.

I offer a free 20 minutes introductory phone call in which we can get to know each other, I can answer any questions that you might have about therapy and we can decide if I'm the right therapist for you.

How Therapy can help you

You might feel worried or overwhelmed by the thought of starting therapy. You might feel unsure about what to expect or worry about opening up to a complete stranger! Please know that this is completely understandable and normal. We all fear the unknown.

When you're experiencing low self esteem or you are grieving it can be difficult to express your own needs or communicate them to the people around you. Right now things might feel bleak and difficult.

I can provide you with a safe, warm and non judgmental space in which I will help you to talk about what is going on for you and to build your confidence so that you can make the changes and move forwards in a way that is right for you.

You might be wondering how talking can help but often we don't take the time to reflect on our feelings and therapy can give you the opportunity to step away from the routine, noise and chaos of every day life and to hear your own voice.

Things I can help with

Things I can help with include loss, bereavement, including pet bereavement, low self esteem/confidence issues, including emotional neglect or abuse in childhood, feelings of anxiety and depression, stress, burnout and struggling to adjust to major life events or changes.

Don't worry if what you're dealing with is not listed above. You are more than welcome to get in touch and we can discuss your needs and whether I'm the right therapist for you.

My therapeutic Approach

You might want to know a little bit more about my therapeutic approach. Person centred therapy is fairly unstructured. I will help you to explore what is going on for you, your feelings and how you can move forwards or make the changes that are right for you.

This might involve helping you to come to terms with what has happened or what you have experienced in the past or it might involve helping you to build your confidence and how you can express and cope with your feelings in a more compassionate and healthier way.

A warm welcome awaits you and I will provide you with a safe, compassionate and non judgmental space in which you can talk freely about your problems, express your feelings and feel heard.

Together we will explore the issues and concerns that are important to you and how they affect your life and overall well being.

I want to reassure you that I am not here to tell you how to live your life, instead we will work together in a collaborative way.

We will go at your pace and we will review our work together on a regular basis. This is to make sure that you get the most out of your therapy and that it continues to meet your needs.

You might wish to have a look at my Blog in which I write regularly about self esteem issues, loss and bereavement. You can find it here: https://www.katunverricht.co.uk/blog-1

Where and when your sessions will take place

I offer face to face, video and telephone sessions.

For video sessions I currently use Zoom.

As mentioned above, I offer a free, 20 minutes introductory phone call.

Number of sessions

I offer short term and long term Counselling.

A little bit about Me

I am a Counsellor but I have also been in therapy so I understand the nerves and apprehension that you might feel. I want to reassure you that a warm welcome awaits you.

I qualified as a Counsellor in 2015 and I worked in the NHS and charity sector for several years. I'm also a pet owner and I have a deep understanding of the pain and sorrow losing your pet can cause. Grieving for your pet can be a secret or hidden grief because people don't often talk or understand this particular type of loss. This is why as well as general Therapy and Bereavement Therapy, I also offer Pet Bereavement Therapy.

I am also no stranger to low self esteem or Imposter Syndrome and in my personal and professional experience have come across many people who struggle with their sense of self worth and confidence. So if that's you, please don't worry, you are not alone and together we will explore the things that might help you to improve your self esteem and to build your confidence so that you can live the life you envision for yourself.

I am qualified, registered and accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

What to expect from your first session

Once you have booked your introductory phone call and you feel happy to go ahead with an appointment, I will email you a copy of the Counselling Agreement which is about things like confidentiality and what happens if you need to cancel an appointment. I will talk you through the Counselling Agreement in your first session and answer any questions that you might have.

We will then talk about what brings you to Counselling in more depth and explore what is important to you and what you would like to get out of the sessions or if there is anything that you would like to focus on, for example building confidence or coming to terms with a past experience.

We will explore any questions or concerns that you might have.

At the end of the session, we will book your next appointment.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. You might like to take a look at my website, you can find it here: https://www.katunverricht.co.uk

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
