About me

I believe that taking that first step and going to see a Counsellor (even if it’s not your first time), and talking about things of a personal nature, is something that takes a great deal of courage. I also believe, if you know a little about who it is you are choosing to work with, it can sometimes make things a little easier.

My private practice is called Why? Counselling. I qualified as a Person Centred Counsellor in 2020 with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I recently retired from my career as a Firefighter that spanned over 29 years of service, and is where I developed my passion for Counselling & Coaching. As I see it, being a Counsellor and a Coach is a natural evolution of who I am. I spent a little over 29 years helping the public on the ‘worst day of their lives’, and I view my work as my way of continuing to help people.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my foundational training in Person-Centred Therapy in 2020 and since then, I've expanded my expertise by earning credentials in various evidence-based interventions like Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Trauma Focused CBT. I'm also qualified to provide counselling services remotely, both online and over the phone. At present, I'm working towards my Diploma in Trauma Therapy, having already received my Certificate in the same field.

I've further enhanced my skills by acquiring certificates in cognitive and somatic interventions. These methods are grounded in research and have proven both helpful and effective in managing conditions like anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and PTSD.

In addition to my counselling qualifications, I'm also an ILM Certified Coach & Mentor. I utilise various techniques and strategies to help you maximise your potential and achieve your goals. Part of this process may involve creating a plan and providing innovative feedback to maintain your progress. As you will see from my website, my background is strongly rooted in training and development, and I leverage this experience to benefit our work together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Further information

My primary focus is on addressing trauma, specifically catering to the unique needs and experiences of both active and retired members of the Emergency Services and Armed Forces. Alongside this, I am deeply committed to supporting men as they navigate their own personal challenges, be it confronting the effects of toxic masculinity, managing the aftermath of a divorce, or rediscovering their sense of purpose in life. My practice is driven by the philosophy that every individual deserves the space to heal, grow, and ultimately, to thrive.
