About me

My name is Justin and I am an experienced qualified integrative counsellor working in Yateley.

I work face to face and also  offer online sessions.

I offer clients the opportunity to explore their own unique experiences surrounding mental health concerns, trauma, addiction, work and relationship issues, loss, stress, bullying, bereavement and low esteem.

My philosophy is grounded in the belief that growth and change can be attainable given the right circumstances. I strongly believe that exploration in a non-judgemental, trusting and safe environment, with the right counsellor, can help enable the individual to grow.

I firmly believe that gaining awareness of self, leads to an understanding of ourselves our behaviours and our responses to life events and facilitates opportunity for personal growth and development.

I work as a substance misuse specialist within the NHS working daily with addiction and substance dependency (see below for more details on this). I have also worked for The Priory Group as a sessional therapist.

How can counselling help you?

Counselling provides a non-judgemental space for you to explore whatever may be causing you concern. Counselling is about listening and hearing your concerns without trying to 'fix' the issue. I strive to offer accurate empathic understanding, congruence (genuineness), and unconditional positive regard (acceptance) to all clients as I believe these conditions are imperative in formulating a safe, trusting environment for therapeutic change to flourish.

Sometimes the first step is the hardest to take, so I always offer an informal assessment to allow you the opportunity to ask questions and to decide whether I am the right counsellor for you and whether it is the right time for you to engage in therapy.

Please email me for more information or to arrange an assessment.

Training, qualifications & experience

Although specialising in addiction, I don't work within this field exclusively.

Working with addiction

I have worked for a number of services based around Surrey and Berkshire within substance misuse.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP.

I am trained in S.M.A.R.T recovery, hold a certificate and am registered as a facilitator for this CBT based recovery model. I also have a wealth of knowledge and experience of 12 Step recovery.

I have a firm belief that freedom from addiction is entirely possible given the right circumstances, support and challenging to thinking patterns. Counselling can offer the time and space that statutory services often cannot provide. If you have decided you are ready to make changes to your life then counselling can be a profound journey of change.

In my counselling practice I offer the opportunity to look at practical tools and strategies to enable the client to be empowered and to try and marry the psychosocial aspect of change to the therapeutic intervention.

My outlook and commitment

I currently work within The NHS as a Substance Misuse Specialist. I have worked as a sessional therapist with The Priory Group and I have been lead facilitator for The Abstinence Preparation treatment pathway and Alcohol Education groups with I-access drug and alcohol service within the NHS.

I am able to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from working with addiction to one to one sessions. When working with addiction, I offer a space for clients to explore a variety of options to assist in enabling freedom from addictive behaviours.

I regularly undertake training including; Safeguarding adults, Safeguarding children, Equality, Diversity and Human rights, Mental Capacity, Working with dual diagnosis, Working with suicidal ideation, Working with anger, Information Governance and Conflict Resolution.

I continue to further my personal and professional development by attending courses relevant to my post both mandatory and statutory that benefit my private practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
