About me
Hello and welcome. My name is Joyce and I am a qualified CBT Therapist and Psychotherapist and I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedures.
The most important relationship in your life is the one with yourself. It is the only constant relationship you will ever have.
Therefore, the relationship you have with yourself determines everything.
We will work together in therapy, in the way that is suitable for you, to promote emotional health and well-being in a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space. Therapy sessions usually vary from short-term and long-term sessions and you can choose how long you would like your sessions to last.
Whilst having counselling, its important that we also take care of our bodies as our physical health also needs to be aligned. Therefore as part of my counselling service, with the aid of a Professional Fitness Instructor, I am now combining the power of exercise to help you to notice where you feel emotions in your body, your feelings, thoughts and mood. In time, this will allow you to think about what the physical feelings in your body might be telling you about unexpressed and cut-off emotions and experience. We will lead you through the session and help you notice changes in your emotional state and listen to the ideas, thoughts and reflections which occur to you as you work out.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Why choose therapy
If you are encountering problems and find yourself suffering emotionally, feeling stuck or overwhelmed, then counselling can help you.
Whether it is a specific event or transition in your life, the roots of your struggles may seem vague, with repeating patterns in your life, such as depression, anxiety, unhealthy relationships stress, worry, or addictions.
You may look within, with the view to addressing your problems, searching for positive ways to explore your options, to clarify your thoughts and to develop strategies in coping with life, while increasing your self-awareness in the process.
What is Psychotherapy/Counselling?
Psychotherapy/counselling also known as "talking therapy" is a "special" kind of conversation between the therapist and client. They work together to foster insight and understanding, to ease suffering and discover a life of meaning, authenticity and connection. Simply being able to speak to someone in a confidential and safe space, results in anxiety reduction and an abundance of peace.
How do I work?
My theoretical model is Integrative which includes Psychodynamic (exploring past experiences in relationships and family attachments that affect the present behaviour, and interactions with others) and Person-Centred approach (a non-judgemental, empathic, honest (here-and-now experience).
My contact details:
Please contact me via phone 07438990870 or email me for an initial chat about seeking help about your needs and goals.
The first session is to explore and understand your problems better and discuss whether counselling would be helpful. We can then arrange subsequent sessions to be held either weekly or fortnightly, according to your needs. A review of the therapy will be done periodically and where the counselling therapy will eventually come to an end at a satisfactory time.
In response to COVID-19, I am now offering online/MS-Team, Zoom, Skype and phone sessions to allow new and current clients to continue to access support, from the safety of their home.
