About me

I'm here to help you get through the moments of emotional pain and distress that you may be experiencing at this moment. This could be due to

  • a loss of a loved one,
  • a loss of a relationship
  • a tragic event that has happened in your life
  • an abusive relationship
  • stress at work
  • stress due to family issues
  • Loneliness
  • Lack of Purpose

These are just some of life's issues that could be making you feel bad, confused and sometimes disconnected from yourselves and others around you, there are countless more. Emotional pain can be so painful. It can trigger a never ending cycle of negative thoughts which just bring us down further and make us feel and think bad things about ourselves. We buy into these negative thoughts and treat them as fact. We then view ourselves in a bad light which makes us reluctant to partake in activities which are good for our mental and emotional health and even begin partaking in habits and behaviours which are not good for us. Living a negative, unfulfilling life will then confirm to us that our negative thoughts are correct. You see how we can get stuck in a cycle of negativity. We lose the joy for life and it seems like more of a chore with countless episodes of hardship rather than an experience which is what it should be.

If the above sounds familiar to you then counselling could be an option for you.

How my Counselling works and how it could help you.

First and foremost I can offer you a genuine human connection. I'm a personable guy and have a naturally vested interest in seeing your emotional health improve. I tend to form long counselling relationships with my clients which is perhaps testament to my ability to form connections and value to the lives of my clients. I treat clients in a holistic way and my approach is normally a mix between the existential and practical based approaches. Normally we will look to explore your thoughts and feelings on a deep level. Learning how we really feel and think about ourselves is fundamental for any progress to be made. Being honest with ourselves is the first step but I'm aware how difficult and how much resistance there is to this. This is not easy as it's painful to look honestly at ourselves. Quite often we've built a whole false identity, trying to convince ourselves and others that we're something that we're not.  I know this as I've been there myself and I've seen the harm this destructive path can lead us down. I've helped many clients through this as well and I'd like to do the same for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) Which demonstrates my professionality with regards to code and ethics in counselling. I also have an advanced DBS certificate which I can readily show you.

I have a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling which focuses on Integrative Counselling. This combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person Centered and Psychodynamic counselling. These modalities of counselling have been tried and tested over the years in treating clients effectively for numerous psychological conditions. I have witnessed the effectiveness of integrative counselling first hand and is why I continue to use and develop such methodology. I approach every client and their presenting issue in an eclectic way as I recognise every body is unique and their issues different. The one thing that will remain consistent from me is my commitment to helping you feel better and my congruence and non-judgemental approach to yourself and problems you're having.

I also have a level 1 teacher training qualification in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. Research has shown that mindfulness has been a highly effective method in treating numerous mood disorders. I am being trained in this by Doctor Patrizia Collard who is  a pioneer in this field of therapy.

For the last two years I've been employed at a busy Charity based agency in Havering where I've acquired a great deal of experience in helping a diverse range of clients with a multitude of mental, emotional and psychological issues. I've counselled a range of age groups and people from various backgrounds. I've helped people with a range of issues that includes

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma
  • Bereavement
  • OCD
  • Personality Disorders
  • Relationship problems or loss of a relationship
  • Lack of motivation and purpose
  • Feelings of low self esteem and low self worth
  • Addiction problems

Within the agency I also run a Parenting Group where parents are given emotional support and pragmatic solution based techniques to help them manage their children who are displaying challenging behaviour..

I've also run a group which provides emotional support and guidance to homeless people through the organisation Hope4Havering. I've also spent time as a voluntary worker at St Mungos which is a Homeless Shelter for those who have serious addiction problems.

I've volunteered on the OCD helpline at OCD Action. I have this condition myself and have successfully recovered from it. I felt a need to impart my wisdom on to those others who've been suffering from this debilitating condition. I also have a high level of success rate in treating OCD with clients I've worked with.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
