About me

Hi I’m Josee (she/her), and I offer a creative approach to psychotherapy, in-person in central Glasgow. Talking is always an option, and there are always creative materials available.

When working creatively in therapy, there is no need for any 'skill' or experience. The focus is on the process - your experience of creating, and any meaning there may be. Simply put, creative approaches can help express what is hard to put into words, and offer ways to regulate emotionally.

My Play Therapy MSc was rooted in person-centred and psychodynamic therapy. In practice, this means I'll relate to you with warmth, realness, empathy and curiosity, and help facilitate your process in a direction and pace that works for you. I bring an understanding of how past relationships impact our present day ones, including the therapeutic one. Other approaches and practices that influence how I work include; neurobiology, mindfulness and body-based practices. I strive to offer an inclusive space and bring an intersectional lens to how societal injustices affect wellbeing.

If you're interested, do get in touch. I offer a free 30-min intro call for us to work out if we might be a good fit.

I've worked with a range of life experiences, topics and identities, including; ~ trauma ~ abuse ~ anxiety ~ depression ~ navigating life changes ~ care-experience and adoption ~ relationships and sex ~ dual heritage ~ gender, sexuality and relationship diversity ~ neurodivergence and disability.

I provide creative resources that support different types of exploring and expression (however, we don't need to use stuff to be creative!), including:

  • Visual: paint, pens, recycled packaging, collaging
  • Sensory: sand, clay, fidget toys, essential oils
  • Dramatic/narrative: small figures, daily objects, fabric
  • Movement: big exercise ball, soft mat
  • Sound: singing bowl, shaker

Training, qualifications & experience

My Background

Whilst working as a mindfulness facilitator, I realised I wanted to work with people in further depth and 1:1. I had experienced first-hand as a client the valuable role therapy can play. With a background in drama and nature-based play work I was drawn to Play Therapy. My experience includes working in the 3rd sector across different age groups, offering therapy, and mental health and wellbeing support. I currently volunteer as a trustee on the board of a community-owned and community-led venue. Otherwise, some things I enjoy are sporadic gardening and random craft projects.

Ongoing development and training includes

  • I co-host a monthly reading group for psychotherapists, focused on intersectional, trauma-informed and embodied practice.
  • Decolonising Therapy (2025; 3-hours) with Black Psychotherapy
  • Justice in Therapy (2025; 7-hours) with Black Psychotherapy
  • Nature-Based Therapeutic Skills (2024; 2 days) with Woodland Play Therapy.
  • British & Irish Sand Play Society Conference (2024; 2 days).

Professionalism

  • MSc (Master of Science) Play Therapy, Queen Margaret University Edinburgh (2020).
  • Mindfulness Teacher Training for Adults (2015-16), with Youth Mindfulness.
  • Full Member of the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT), and follow their Ethical Principles and Core Competencies. BAPT is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
  • I am insured with Holistic Insurance, a member of Disclosure Scotland's Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, and registered with the Information Commissioner's Office - following General Data Protection Regulations (2018).
