About me

Welcome

My name is Jo Leather (she/her) and I am a BACP Registered Psychotherapist/Counsellor practising online and face to face, based in Prestwich, North Manchester. I am qualified to a Level 7,  having trained at Salford University and having won an MSc with Distinction.

I am a Person-Centred Therapist, which means that I work alongside you at your own pace, offering a warm, accepting and non-judgemental space for you to process your feelings, thoughts and experiences.

Maybe you are feeling under huge pressure at work or struggling in a relationship or finding it hard with your family? Or perhaps you have feelings of sadness, feelings that you're just "not good enough," feelings that you're anxious all the time and you don't know why? We can work together in our sessions on naming, claiming and ultimately, reframing these feelings.

Skilled at working with a diverse range of clients, I'm confident and respectful working with people of all genders. I work frequently with clients living with low mood, social anxiety, panic attacks and Generalised Panic Disorder.

While I am fundamentally humanistic in modality, I can also offer a range of approaches including CBT techniques and Creative Expressive Techniques, depending on the needs and goals of the client. We can tailor the approach to suit you. I am Level 3 trauma trained and take a trauma-informed approach to all my work.

I also have extensive experience working with emerging adults and welcome enquiries from younger clients.

Currently, I am offering in person sessions at the Sanctuary Centre just off Butterstile Road in Prestwich and I also offer Zoom sessions.

Getting Started

I know how hard it can be to start therapy. Perhaps you don't know what to expect and it's overwhelming? Just drop me an email to set up an initial session and in that session we can discuss what you would like to get from counselling and we can talk about any concerns you may have about getting started. Don't worry about feeling awkward - I make sure that clients feel at ease and empowered during sessions. You're in charge, not me!

Enquiries from parents and guardians regarding therapy for young people are welcomed, just drop me an email to discuss.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
