About me
Hello and welcome to my directory listing. I hope I can be of help to you. If you have any questions do contact me and we can arrange a free 15-minute appointment either in-person, online, over the phone as you prefer.
Whatever the circumstances and challenges you are facing, I am committed to working with you in a way that helps you explore what is troubling you and experiment with new ways of moving forward - whatever that means to you - with my support.
I am trained as a Gestalt therapist, this just means in our work together I will encourage you to be curious and find fresh ways of tackling old problems and the inevitable frustrations that go with trying to change your circumstances and grow as a person. I will pay complete attention to all that you share, both in terms of what you say but also in how you speak and how your body speaks.
I will provide a supportive relationship for you to better understand yourself, your relationships and life in general. Together we will investigate ways for you to develop a better internal dialogue and I may invite you to try some creative ways of speaking to yourself and others.
Counselling can be a positive, even enjoyable experience but also do expect to lean into some uncomfortable stuff along the way.
Most clients look to engage in weekly sessions. I work from my office at home in NG4 and my therapy room is on the ground floor with ground floor WC access. Each appointment lasts 50 minutes. I offer appointments in person, online and hybrid. Sessions can be open-ended or time limited. We will start working together by exploring your expectations of therapy and what it is you want help with, and we will review our work frequently. I work with people 18 and over.
I appreciate approaching a counsellor is an important step and investment. It might help you if I tell you a bit about myself.
I am 63 and a white, London-Irish male. I have been married for 30 years to Catherine (also a psychotherapist) and we have two now grown-up children, a son and a daughter. I have had many jobs, mostly to do with education, politics and coaching. I still work part time as a tutor, mostly primary aged children. I have always worked in a way that celebrates each person and respects their culture, beliefs and values. Perhaps this is why many people from non-UK backgrounds seem to have sought me out. I am also familiar with the different ways being neurodiverse shapes life. Perhaps because of my Hypnotherapy and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) background I have worked with many people with sleep, eating and health problems, including ‘functional disorders’ and Long Covid.
I fully embrace working in a way that embraces difference and diversity as difference is what makes life and people interesting.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a diploma in Counselling from the Gestalt Centre in London. I am also a qualified coach, NLP practitioner and hypnotherapist.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
