About me
Welcome to my Psychotherapy, Trauma Counselling and Supervision practice. I offer counselling and psychotherapy to individuals experiencing a wide range of emotional, relationship, post traumatic stress, trauma and work related issues.
I work from the belief that we are all experts on ourselves and given the right level of support, challenge and environmental conditions we are able to make use of our expertise and inner resources.
I hope to encourage people to become aware of their strengths, limitations and inner resources as well as paying attention to physical and emotional responses. If appropriate I may suggest further exploration aimed at heightening awareness.
Overall, my style of working is one of promoting inner growth and strength by providing a supportive and conducive environment built on mutual trust, respect, honesty and real contact. I achieve this by making myself available to my clients through focusing on the here and now, including the relationship between my clients and myself.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have over 35 years of experience working in the area of people development and communication both in the public and private sectors. I have also held senior lecturing posts teaching on post-graduate management and professional development programmes and supervising dissertation students.
The move into training to become a Gestalt Psychotherapist seemed a natural extension to my professional work and my desire to focus on working one-to-one within a therapeutic context was a motivating factor.
I have been counselling since 2007. I have an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy; Clinical Diploma in Psychotherapy and Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Gestalt) from the Metanoia Institute. In addition, I am a certificated EMDR practioner and a Somatic Trauma trained therapist. I also hold an Interpersonal Mediation Practitioner’s Certificate for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
I have experience of working both in voluntary settings and large organisations with people from a wide range of backgrounds who come to therapy with very varied problems and issues. I believe my training and life experience enables me to support my clients through their struggles and helps them to make life-changing decisions based on thoughtful choice and a sense of a stronger inner self.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Supervision
I offer supervision to counselling and psychotherapy trainees, either individually or in groups. I work from a Gestalt perspective, bringing in consideration of other theories and approaches as appropriate. I am particularly interested in how often the process between my supervisees and myself is a reflection of the client material we are considering.
I completed my Certificate in Supervision at the Centre for Supervision and Team Development – London.
