About me

I am a BACP Accredited counsellor working within their ethical framework.  I have been in practice for over 9 years and during that time I have worked with a wide range of issues.  At the moment I am offering remote sessions via the video link zoom.

My approach as a counsellor is predominantly person-centred and at the heart of this approach is the belief that each and every one of us knows within ourselves our own answers. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and that given the right support you have the ability within yourself to find your own healthy way forward.  With this belief central to my way of working, I work in a non-directive way. Together we will be exploring whatever it is that troubles you, with you leading the way.

Exploration of this kind provides you with more clarity and understanding of yourself, your situation and your relationships.  It can help you learn to manage anxiety, depression, thoughts, feelings and behaviours.  The process of counselling is not always easy, it can be really challenging, but as you gain a deeper understanding of yourself you also gain the opportunity of creating a more resourceful and fulfilling life.

I realise that stepping into counselling can be quite daunting - it takes courage.  This is an investment in you and your future and finding the 'right' counsellor for you is really important.  In the first instance I offer a free telephone consultation in order for us to establish what it is that troubles you, what you would like to gain from counselling and whether or not we feel that we could work together.

Please do email or call.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as an integrative counsellor which means I am familiar with the different approaches used in counselling.  This training allows me to integrate those different approaches depending on the individual client's needs.  However, the Humanistic/Person-Centred approach provides a constant backdrop to my work.

  • BACP Accreditation
  • CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Advanced Certificate in Counselling Theory
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills

I am committed to continual professional development and have attended more specialist training in the following areas:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Generalised anxiety disorder
  • Phobias
  • Depression
  • Separation/divorce
  • Addiction
  • Codependency

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
