About me

I’m a qualified counsellor who is registered with the  British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I offer short and long-term term, one-to one counselling to adults, in-person and online, providing a safe and non-judgemental space to explore issues that may be causing distress or frustration. Different things bring different people to counselling. Whatever brings you, we will explore - and make sense of what we discover - together.

I currently have sessions available on Mondays (as of April 2024)

I have trained in psychodynamic and person-centred approaches and will use both in our work together. This means that I will work with you in the belief:

  • that you are the expert on yourself and that - given the right conditions - you will find the answers you need already within you. These conditions include a safe place to explore your experiences free of judgement.
  • that some of the ways you are feeling or relating to others just now have been shaped and influenced by experiences you have had in the past and that understanding this better can bring about changes in the present.
  • that one path to change lies within the therapeutic relationship we will create as we collaborate on the issues you bring and goals you have.

When you feel ready to make that first step, please email me.  My website gives you an idea of what would happen next.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work with adults through my private practice and within the voluntary sector, providing a safe and non-judgemental space to explore issues that may be causing distress or frustration.

I completed my counselling training at Edinburgh University. This was a course that qualified me to work as a counsellor using both psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. I also have a Masters in the Psychology of Mental Health also from Edinburgh University. This does not make me a psychologist but it gives me a better understanding of the mental health issues we can all face.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP - 494128). I am also a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (480958).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer an initial 30 minute consultation in which we will cover what has brought you to look for counselling at this time and what I offer. It also covers other practical aspects of counselling - like confidentiality. This is NOT a counselling session and is free.

If you want to work together, we would then meet at the same time each week. I offer both short-term and long-term counselling with regular reviews to make sure our work is still benefitting you.

Each session is 50 minutes and costs £50.

For my in-person sessions, I work within Dialogue and Space in Edinburgh (see: https://www.dialogueandspace.co.uk/team).
