About me
I am an accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor and clinical supervisor with UKCP with many years’ of experience gained through various organisations including; NHS (Iapt), local charities, education and private practice. I offer sessions in a variety of ways to suit your needs including online, outdoors and face to face in my private room in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds.
All counsellors and therapists work differently, I work relationally and creatively, bringing together theories from a variety of modalities including Gestalt, transactional analysis, attachment theories and trauma informed therapy. Having a variety of therories enables me to find a way that best 'fits' you. I have a particular interest in childhood trauma, domestic abuse/violence, loss, bereavement. I also have experience in working with anxiety, depression, perinatal mental health, divorce and separation.
I believe the key to successful counselling and therapy lies in the relationship between client and therapist. UKCP describes working relationally as "Therapists that have “a relational approach” would prioritise the way you relate to others and see this is central to understanding yourself." I do this with compassion and empathy. I respect and value that all our experiences are unique and know only too well how difficult it can be to reach out for support. I will offer you a safe, welcoming space where we can be together and explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from being together. I do my best to ensure you feel welcome from the moment you make your enquiry and will happily answer any questions you may have.
I believe we all deserve the right to be heard and understood. All too often in life we are given 'messages', sometimes unspoken ones, sometimes they are not even in our awareness, yet they can have an impact on our emotional wellbeing. We may find ourselves wondering about many things such as Why me? What have I done wrong? I don’t know what to do? I don’t know who I am anymore, I feel lost. Maybe, you have a sense that you want something different for yourself and maybe you are not sure what that might be. Working relationally and drawing upon different theories, I will support you to find your way.
I offer an initial free phone chat to discuss your difficulties and an opportunity for you to see if you feel comfortable with how I work and ask any questions you may have.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
