About me

You might be struggling with suicidal thoughts, shame, feeling depressed, feeling constantly anxious and on edge. You might have a combination of these along with other issues that you need to work through. What you’re feeling might have been triggered by a traumatic, life altering event or you might not know why you’re feeling this way. Counselling can help from lots of different starting points. You don’t have to be at rock bottom to seek help or maybe that is where you are and that is okay too. You’ve taken the first steps to search for a counsellor. I know it takes a lot of courage, sometimes all you’ve got.

I am a person-centred counsellor trained at level 7 (PGDip) providing nationwide counselling from the Wirral . Most of my experience has been in suicide prevention and those bereaved by suicide. It is such an honour for people to trust me in some of the darkest moments of their life. As I have worked with suicide so closely I am able to approach the topic of suicide and suicidal thoughts comfortably, something that we don’t tend to do in the outside world. There are so many factors that can contribute to people feeling like this because of this my experience also includes working with abuse, financial hardship, loss, grief, bullying, family issues, work stresses, generalised depression, anxiety, pregnancy, abortion, abandonment, loneliness and sexuality.

In counselling sessions I aim to hold a space for you to be able to be with your thoughts and feel your true feelings. All the external pressures and expectations can be left at the door and you can feel free to be yourself. For me, this is how growth can start. Being a person-centered counsellor, I believe that the client should lead the sessions because they know themselves the best. I have witnessed people bringing issues or feelings that seem too big to face by themselves and breaking them down to successfully work through piece by piece in the safe space of the counselling session. I will walk with my clients and help guide with my training, experience and knowledge but the client will always steer. I aim to create a safe, welcoming, trusting and judgement free environment to build a useful counselling relationship.

Don't struggle alone, message me on instagram @oneillcounselling, or email me to see how we can work together. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Stay safe.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
