About me

My name is Ginny and I have been working as a counsellor for 16 years. I am warm and approachable and love the work I do. I trained as a Person-Centred counsellor, the philosophy of which, underpins my work. However, over the years I have brought in other ways of working, particularly the use of creativity.

Research has shown that growth and change come about due to the therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and client, this has been my experience. Therefore, my aim is to provide a safe, confidential, warm and secure environment based on trust and respect where this relationship can be built and in which we can explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours which can lead to a greater sense of self awareness and understanding, and ultimately a more fulfilling life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Diploma in Counselling and I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I work within their Ethical Framework.

I continue to keep up with my continuing Professional Development (CPD) and at the moment am interested in learning more about working with trauma and attachment theory.

Over the past 15 years I have worked for 2 agencies, the second one specialised in working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

Alongside this, I have experience in working with anxiety, depression, family relationships, connecting with emotions, abuse, self-esteem and worth amongst other things.

Although there are various methods informing my work, what’s important to me is that I get to know you and what you might need as we work together. My role is not to tell you what to do, or to give you advice, but it's to help you find the answers by listening to you and giving you the space to explore habits and ways of thinking that aren’t working for you at the moment. I will work at your pace with what ever you want to look at each week. I work with adults face to face, which is my preference, but where necessary, I am happy to work on Zoom.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
