About me

Hello. I am a Pluralistic Counsellor and Physiotherapist working online, face to face and outside. I offer counselling for anxiety, trauma, stress and burnout and bereavement and loss. I also specialise in helping people with issues related to health and illness specifically persistent pain and long term conditions.

Life can be overwhelming. Anxiety, stress, health issues and low mood may be a sign that you would benefit from support. I know that these experiences can feel confusing and scary. It is not unusual to feel a sense of loss or anxiety about the future. It can be a lonely place and you may feel unseen and misunderstood. All of this can affect your relationships, work and life choices.

In addition living with chronic pain or illness can take its toll. Having space to talk this through with a person who understands what its like is vital and can make a world of difference to how you manage.

I have been alongside people throughout their physical and mental health journeys and understand the highs and lows. Together we can start to make sense of it all in a safe environment and find a way for you to live well despite the challenges you may have.

As a Pluralistic counsellor, I will chat with you about what you need from counselling and work with your preferences. We are all different and one size does not fit all. I have a keen interest in helping people with their physical and mental health holistically in a way that considers your experiences, your emotions and your body. Please see my website for more details of my approach.

As a previous NHS worker, I am also able to understand and work with individuals in the helping professions who may have experienced stress, burn out and vicarious trauma.

Training, qualifications & experience

Having unique knowledge and experience that is both medical and therapeutic places me in a unique position to support you. I have a PG (Dip) in Pluralistic Counselling and a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy. I consider the body when working with psychological distress.

I have lived experience of anxiety, post-natal depression, persistent pain and burn-out. I worked with people with long term and life limiting health conditions in the NHS for 25 years specialising in neurology, persistent pain and frailty and more latterly as a counsellor for a cancer charity.

My own CPD has focused mainly on awareness of anxiety, stress, trauma and bereavement/loss and I have read extensively in this area and also attended numerous courses.

For advancing my knowledge in the field of chronic pain recovery, I have trained with the Psychophysiological disorders association as well as in both Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy, Pain Reprocessing Therapy and am a SIRPA practitioner.   I utilise practices such as breathwork, mindfulness somatic tracking and somatic practices when appropriate having attended several Breathworks mindfulness courses and trained as a Capacitar practitioner. I work in a trauma informed way. I am currently training in EMDR therapy.

I can provide counselling and physiotherapy either individually or as an integrated approach to help you explore, understand and ultimately benefit your emotional and physical wellbeing.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
